Hello! I have a question for you all… I have 2 budgies and I tried to make chop for the first time. I had zucchini, carrots, romaine lettuce, and a spring mix (kale, spinach, etc.), garbanzo beans, chia seeds, quinoa, oats, and cooked brown rice. I mixed everything together and put them in small snack sized baggies and froze them. I am noticing that when they thaw out, the lettuce is slimy-ish and kinda “pulpy”… I am worried that this is not normal? Or harmful to the birds as is? Is it just the type of green veggies that I used? Should I stick with more dry veggies? I’m so confused. I’m trying to do right by my new friends but it’s difficult to make fresh food daily because I only have 2 little birds. Any recommendations or warnings for me? Thanks much!

Watery vegetables go to mush once frozen. Personally I think you are better giving fresh. A pinch off the romaine and kale, a leaf or two of spinach. Forget the chickpeas and oats. Grate a little carrot, or cut them a chunk and hang in the cage, a slice of fresh corn on the cob, a snow pea or two, carrot tops, celery tops, fresh seeding grass. Fresh herbs as well ... these are the things you are going to have more success with.
