After reading skysmum's thread about Flora and her loss of feathers, it reminded me of this morning when I went out to clean the chickens out. Aurelia has shed, what seems like, the whole of her body feathers! They have all been through one awful moult recently, her now being the last one. But, upon examination, there are no pinnies where all her feathers are missing, which makes me think there is something else going on, like Flora. Something else to research on-line! What would we do without it? I am hoping it is only a very serious moult like the others had.

I think it is just a major moult. Today is day three, and the run and coop have looked just like this on each day. Poor little soul, pinnies next. Plus of course she has moulted just before the weather is going to get really bad, hopefully not too cold. She really has left it a little late as all the other girlies have their full winter coats on!!

I used to think a budgies moult was bad, until I saw the feathers of your chook, Shirls. Poor girl.

I wonder, do chickens have night frights, that is a lot of feathers! Not as far as I know Marianne. They go 'comatose' when it's dark and are completely unaware of everything!!

It's nothing to worry about Shirls. Mine did this on occasion. My little bantam is moulting quite badly at the moment. Strange time to moult, when it's getting cold.

Oh it is Wendy, it's really cold today and poor little Aurelia is nearly bald!! Not had this happen to any of the Buffs I must say, but they have all had a good moult this year and they all have their winter coats on, apart from Aurelia, poor little sausage! She looks like a rescued battery hen!!
