Much to Loki's horror and disgust - how could I?!? He hates the cockatoos with a passion; such BIG, LOUD and scary white monsters! Mr Bold who first appeared: He then brought some mates to the party .... they're not so sure, but he is still alive and eating all the sunflower seeds ... maybe it is safe to go down. Crowding around for a piece of the action. A free feed won in the end.

It must be a right old chorus if Loki starts shouting and they start shouting back. Will they come round every day now?

Stunning pictures Hezz. In the wild would these 2 types of birds not mix?

Amazing, I love Cockatoos, they have such wonderfully bold personalities. Sadly, never seen one in person, you're sooo lucky!
I have to rely on youtube for my fix!

It must be a right old chorus if Loki starts shouting and they start shouting back. Will they come round every day now? I don't encourage them to come every day, a bit like the scrub turkeys, it is more as a treat. It had been more than a week since their last visit, but the last couple of days have been so wet, aand they have turned up the last couple of afternoons. Stunning pictures Hezz. In the wild would these 2 types of birds not mix? JB, Loki is not an Australian native, he's Sth American, so no, he wouldn't be conditioned to such. He really gives quite the "invader alarm" and won't even come with me in the house towards where they are. Maybe with time; we will see. Amazing, I love Cockatoos, they have such wonderfully bold personalities. Sadly, never seen one in person, you're sooo lucky! I have to rely on youtube for my fix! They certainly are bold, M. Mr Brave/Bold, as I have labelled him, whoever is the first one down, gets to say who can join in on a equal basis, who has to beg for crumbs on the outside etc. It would seem that "he" has a "girlfriend", someone he is prepared to share with, who is game enough to give him a little push, and a "hey, feed me" as well. It is really quite cute to watch. I'm learning about their own interactions while watching them in close-up. They are, quite literally, less than two metres away from me, albeit with the insect screen between us, sometimes. I can sit on the deck with about that two metres between us and they will settle down to squabble and carry on as long as I am quiet and relatively still.

Amazing, I love Cockatoos, they have such wonderfully bold personalities. Sadly, never seen one in person, you're sooo lucky! I have to rely on youtube for my fix! Many years ago, I went to a place in Lincolnshire that had an enormous enclosure for cockatoos. They were beautiful & most came to the side of the netting where we were & wanted to interact. The funny thing is that my ex-bf, who I was with at the time, had zero interest (I think I blackmailed him into visiting the park!) but was instantly won over by these marvellous, intelligent creatures. Actually, that's just reminded me.... I used to live near a pet shop that had an amazon in it & naturally I would pop in to say hello. One day my ex-bf was with me & started talking to the parrot but was saying it was 'no more intelligent than a goldfish'... the parrot bit him! My ex-bf was convinced the parrot understood what he said! Ah... lovely memories of my ex-bf being bitten!

While they are there on the rail they are quiet. Noisy flying in - telling their mates, perhaps? But while at the seed tray there has only been one altercation - one screech by the first bird, wings out, crest up. For those that might remember the robin bird feeder, it hangs just above there the cockies feed, and gets the eye by all who have to walk underneath. It is rather fierce looking.

They are not there all the time, Lynne. I'd have a very upset Loki if they were. One will usually fly in and sit on the rail then yell at me to bring out the seed, if I haven't already done so. That's usually later in the afternoon, and not every day, so no excuses for not doing the chores.
