The other day, between showers, gale force winds and even some heavy rain, I skimmed the top of the compost heap off, loaded it to the other side, to start a new one. Leaving behind some really nice compost earth to use in the garden. However, somebody spotted what I was doing. It's a good job I only have 6 chickens, no room for any more. Chooks & compost by , on Flickr Half hour later, when all the excitement had subsided, I was pottering, like you do, and Aurelia, the brown and gold chook came wandering down the garden looking for the others. You'd never know where she had been: she had a black beak, muddy feet and some black compost twiggy bits hanging from her bottom! I couldn't get to the camera in time unfortunately. But it was so funny. She is the real scavenger of the group.

Never say no to a well-loaded smorgasbord. Happy feasting, girlies.
