Brand New Budgie

Hi all I'm new to this forum. I have three beautiful budgies:a cock called Herbert, and two hens - Martha and iris.
They are all indoor budgies, and recently I decided to create a more natural perch system as opposed to a cage. They are all free flying so don't really need a cage. I put a eucalyptus tree in the perch system that also has a 10% uv light which I thought would encourage growth, and at first it was fine - my Martha loved to nibble at the leaves. The tree has since died which is very annoying! I'm looking for suggestions on plants or trees that would do well in an indoor planter, suitable for budgies. Tia for any suggestions! I'll attach a pic of my perch system :-) Naomi x

Hi Naomi, welcome to you and the buds. That sounds like quite a set up, would love to see pictures. It's a shame your Eucalyptus died, but budgies do seem to love it. My two are free flying too, but they still like their cage to go home to roost at night.
Sorry it's taken a while for you to get a reply, the forum seems to be really quiet at the minute.

Sorry, but I know of nothing that will both grow indoors and survive the onslaught of three determined budgies, and be safe for them to chew on. Not plants big enough to provide perching stations for them, anyway.
If you have room outside, try growing your eucalyptus tree in the ground and using the branches inside when possible.

We had a beautiful, huge eucalyptus tree in our garden, my buds feasted on the branches for years. It got so big that i couldn't harvest the branches any more so had it pruned hard back, it has killed it . I am trying to find another one but the garden centres are short of them and are having trouble getting them for some reason. I can't think of anything else either for indoors other than a herb garden, i have a basket of herbs for mine when they are in during the winter.
