I purchased a hand tamed parakeet. I received the parakeet on March 19th of this year. The parakeet will go on my finger and let me take it out and in the beginning the bird would stay and be fine and even would go on it’s back in my hands. Lately the bird won’t automatically go to my finger like it used to and will constantly fly away off of my finger, but since the bird has its flight wings trimmed it basically falls on the floor. Is this normal? Is there something I should be doing?

The budgie has become more accustomed to its surroundings and now wants to exert its own choice on whether it wants to sit on your finger or not. This is very common a couple of weeks after the bird has come home. Flight feathers should never be trimmed to the point of the bird not being able to at least glide to the floor. Severely trimmed wings mean that the bird cannot control any flight and will crash to the floor like you describe. Don't allow this to happen - birds will often break the skin over their keel or even the bone itself, they can hurt their legs if they land awkwardly on them or even do damage to the vent area. Make sure there is carpet, a rug or something else softer than a hard floor for the budgie to land on, because it will continue to try to fly.
