Hi, I noticed two of my budgies mating yesterday. Sorry if it’s a silly question but does that mean she will lay eggs? I haven’t provided any sort of nest area in the cage, as I have read in other advice to try prevent breeding. And if she were to lay eggs what do I do? As we wouldn’t have the experience or desire to deal with breeding them. Any advice appreciated

Mating does not necessarily mean you are going to get eggs, but it is better to prevent than try to stop once started. No nestbox or anything cosy, no boxes etc, nothing that she can get into and hide in. Change up the furniture in the cage, remove any favourite toys swings etc, replace with others or new, if necessary. Run perches in different directions to normal, move seed and water stations. Don't over-feed ... limit any treats, no fruit or sweet tasting vegs (corn for instance) and make sure she gets a full 12 hours of dark - cut her day-light hours to be the minority. If the mating becomes intense, you may have to remove her from her mate into her own cage for the time being.
