Hey guys,
My male budgie Sweety is ill again, hes regurgitating a lot, very tired and hes been doing this for maybe a month now (not the normal behaviour BTW), and hes thrown up a few times during the night last few days (his head is wet and smells a little sour).
We took him to the vets previously, they couldn't find out what it was exactly but gave him some pain meds, antibiotics I believe and something to stop him from being sick. He got better but not convinced it was full recovery.
Anyway its come back and hes unwell again, what we think is that the other male budgie (Lime) has had strange urges to keep feeding him (excessively) and sweety doesnt refuse. We think this is what caused him to throw up last time. Perhaps its caused damaged to his crop from over feeding him? Obviously we have separated them but it seems that he may have been fed again (lime escaped out of the cage!!!) which triggered it off.
His stomach/crop does seem to get pretty bloated after he eats
He seems to not be eating the different seed mix hes normally used to, only looking for a specific seed, I cant figure out which it is
Certain foods seem to be triggering it off also such as spinach, maybe millet too but unsure
He's isolated him, Ive cranked the heater really high to keep him warm.
I've given him chamomile tea (seemed to help a bit), today some ginger water for the throwing up. We've tried Apple cider vinegar previously.
Like I said we have taken him to the vets (avian vets ) not long ago but they we'rent sure either even took poop samples... Any advice?
It seems like an issue with his crop/digestion?
Thank you for reading

Unfortunately there are many reasons why a bud might vomit, and it could well be his digestive system being the cause. The vet certainly should have at least tried to find a cause. I would suggest you find another avian vet to take him to. Of course if you are finding he seems worse after certain foods, remove these from his diet for a few weeks and see how he is.
You mention using ACV previously. For how long and at what dosage? ACV can be a great way to maintain normal crop health and prevent unwanted bacteria or yeasts from colonising the crop.
There really are too many reasons for a budgie to vomit and I for one would not like to speculate on which one might be the culprit, and too many tests (easy for a vet) to try to find the right solution, I'm sorry. In the meantime these are the important points you need to cover to support him until you can get him to a decent vet:
EMERGENCY SUPPORTIVE CARE FOR SICK OR INJURED BIRD. There are five important elements, listed in order of importance: Heat Humidity Fluids Nutrition Quiet/Level of Activity

Thanks for your reply Hezz
I've done what you have stated regarding heat, quite room, nutrition etc - many thanks
Its too late to start running tests for him now. He looked like he was going to pass away yesterday, he gave up eating, was only drinking water.
We thought either A) He's going to die B) We try anything we can at our disposal.
Maybe something can be narrowed down from what happened after this incident:
- We started to hand feed him a home made formula, he eat a little, minimum but something
- Purchased aloe Vera juice, started giving him that in his water and with his food.
Within a short moment he total woke up from looking like he was going to die, he started to eat seeds, he eat a lot, his regurgitation stopped and he started to poop a lot more frequently and normal albiet watery (he did drink a bit). He even started to tweet again and play/looked happy.
- This morning hes regurgitating a little and not eat it seems. He's drank his water with aloe vera in so will try hand feed him again and increase the strength of the aloe vera. It seems to help his digestion hence why he began eating.
He seems very tired again also
Will keep updated
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Quick update:
He was looking rough yesterday, tired and wasn't eating. He did have some Aloe vera water but the dosage wasnt as strong.
- Decided to feed him through a syringe, home made mixture with aloe vera - He eat minimum but at least something, did this twice - Increased the strength of the water + aloe vera - By evening time he woke up, started eating again and was happy
- This morning, hes gone to eat himself his seeds, also offered him some by hand - Given him aloe vera via syringe in the morning, stronger dosage after he eat - He's eat himself today so not needed to feed him, hes tired now so resting
Will continue to update
Clearly the Aloe vera juice has helped because A) He's no longer regurgitating or minimum B) He doesnt look as rough as before though hes tired still

Or ... he is simply getting over whatever it was by himself.

I highly doubt it
Hes been sick for a long time now
He was violently regurgitating for months now but its suddenly stopped after giving him aloe vera His swelling is reduced too
There's a strong correlation between giving him the juice and his symmptoms becoming reduced
Like I mentioned, hes been sick for a very long time, he looked to me as though he was going to pass away and gave up eating
Only God knows! But there seems to be a correlation.
I know aloe vera helps with digestions, its brought his appetite back to eating seeds (which was causing him violent regurgitation and throwing up)
I know hes still not well but seeing his violent regurgitation dissapear is nice, breaks my heart seeing them suffer

I'm sorry your little budgie is having a rough time, and also for you too.
I didn't know about aloe Vera water, thank you for sharing about it.

I'm sorry your little budgie is having a rough time, and also for you too. I didn't know about aloe Vera water, thank you for sharing about it. Thank you for your kind words. He's still not well and has an underlying issue looks like his digestion but there's a correlation between giving him the aloe vera juice and him going from giving up eating, violent regurgitation (for months) and looking like he's about to die to having more energy, reduced the regurgitation, starting to eat himself and looking a happier. It may not be a cure, but the fact that its settled his violent regurgitation which was heart breaking to watch is good and the fact that hes eating again himself. I think its just about managing it and trying to keep things as comfortable as possible for him. I hope he can recover God willing. In terms of the aloe vera if anyone is wondering, we give him 3 times through syringe 50/50 ratio since he was looking like he was going to die. Doing it once a day now (in the mornings) Also keeping it in his water around 1/8th maybe, sometimes more depending on how he is Hope that helps

I'm sorry your budgie is not recovering. I would be finding another vet to see if they have any opinions.
