Hi again everyone. Since I am going to get a new budgie in few weeks, I was thinking to buy all the things needed ahead. I am confused about the mineral and calcium blocks. If I buy this block, do I need a separate mineral block and a calcium block or this will be sufficient? www.jollyes.co.uk/johnson-s-iodised-condition-pek-small-33g.html

"Contains iodine, grits, seaweed extract, calcium, yeast vitamins and minerals"
I would still provide a cuttlebone as well, even though this does say it contains calcium.

I couldn't find a mineral block with iodine so I just now purchased the liquid, hope it is right! I guess I should have asked my breeder what he used. I know this little guy eats everything! His favorite is Kale Slaw mix, it has alot of veggies added to it. I also have a regular mineral block along with a cuttlebone, Sunny is always eating away at the cuttle bone but he doesn't bother with the mineral block.

Usually they will only bother with the mineral blocks when they feel they need it. They are much better at self-medication than we are. You should still be able to buy an iodine block, even if separate from the mineral block. Putting the liquid in the water doesn't leave them with a choice to have or have not. I would try to find a iodine block for him.

The little pink block is an iodine, calcium and mineral block jolee. No need for liquid iodine I'm sure.

Thanks Shirls but like Hezz said, I'm not the one with the pink block. I just added to it since I needed iodine but was never told what kind. Thanks for the help, I am still looking for an iodine block. I found one on eBay but not sure if it would be fresh or not...

... and oyster shell grit!! Just checking - I read that budgies don't need grit because they remove the husk from seeds, and grit can give them problems, so I threw mine away... Is this wrong? Should I be giving him oyster grit?

Should I be giving him oyster grit? Budgies take the grit when they need it, it works in their digestive system even though they de-husk seeds. Oyster shell is the one to get too, it is a source of calcium as well some minerals.
