So sad to report that Misty just passed away. He bum was stuck with poo so we cleaned him with warm water and he was ok. He was wet so I've held him close to my chest and after 5 minutes he opened his wings and just died. He has eaten this morning and flying about. I don't know what's happened. I'm just sitting here holding him crying.

I'm so sorry Sue. He must have been ill when you got him, it's so hard to know what is normal with really young budgies.
This is truly awful news for you, especially so close to losing Jo.
Fly high little Misty.
xx

He was really over active yesterday, flying like a bird possessed. Our others have not been like that. I just thought he needed a few days to settle. I know we haven't done anything wrong this time

Oh suesbird I so feel for you but from what it sounds like this could not have been helped I had EXACTLY the same thing - when I had lost Monty and bought 3 new birds, 1 in particular Pip was the same, trying to get out, panicking and just would not stop and settle down Some birds can settle and some birds cant its just the luck of the draw, and especially as I had just lost a bird (as you have) you are now blaming yourself when there was nothing you could have done Love and hugs xx

You definitely did nothing wrong. It sounds like he was already ill. It is really hard to tell when they are so young.
I have let Hezz know and she sends her condolences, she will hopefully log on tomorrow as she doesn't have any internet at her house.

Thanks Sam, that helps. How could you love such a tiny thing in two days, really loved this little guy. Husband said I try too hard to make everything perfect for them

Let me clarify, what I mean is anyone would make everything perfect for their birds because they know what they are like to keep! And we always think that we still haven't tried hard enough x I think it just puts into perspective just how fragile these birds can be x

I'm sure your husband is feeling grief too. Sometimes it's hard to make sense of things.
You don't try too hard, you just really care about these little fellows.

Oh no!
I’m so so sorry. You did nothing but give him lots of love. I’m sure he was already ill. But i also think, he would have felt your love, as you were holding him. Something he would not have had, if still at the breeder.
RIP Misty, you were very loved.

I'm shocked and so sorry to hear this suesbird. As others have said, it looks like he may have already been ill. It was good that you comforted him. Is it worth contacting the breeder to see if other birds are also affected?

We have spoken to the breeders wife as he is away at a budgie conference in Scotland, so will go and see him and talk to him on Tuesday when he returns. She was really apologetic and said these things happen. He was quite placid when we put our hand in and willingly stepped up, I thought this was lovely, I have read I could have stressed him out even more, he after a day whenever I was in the kitchen he would come to the bars. I haven't cooked around him except for an hour this morning and we have an electric cooker.
I just don't know, we just keep talking about it and going back over things.
Thank you everyone for your kind words.

He might have easily stepped up as felt a bit poorly too. The fact he did, regardless of why, tells me you didn’t stress him.
If he was stressed by it, I think he’d have flapped about, gone to a corner of his cage.
The breeder will hopefully have more answers when you see him.
We all go over the what we did, didn’t do, ifs etc whether it be a pet/human, but you did all you could. I feel it was him time, sadly.

Sue, I am so sorry, I posted on your other thread, not knowing you had started a new one.
Fly high little one, for the short time you had on this Earth, you will never know how much you were loved xxx
