I've just been looking at the Avipro, jellybean. You can also sprinkle it on his food, if that will help at all. Again, I'd be hesitant about adding it and MT together in the water, but I would ask the vet, since they are the ones with the knowledge and have seen him. I didn't realise that Max was feeling under the weather as well; I thought he was okay but just that you had found the lump. If the choice had to be made, and the choice was mine, I would add the milk thistle over the Avipro, but I would try to get both into him. Did the vet say anything about milk thistle, apart from pointing you towards the "Beauty of Birds" article? Also, milk thistle helps with nausea, which might be part of Max's problem ... just a thought. I think once he is at the stage of needing milk thistle, that he is going to be on it all the time. I know mine will be. Fatty liver disease can be turned around in bigger birds, the earlier the better of course, but honestly I'm not sure that it is possible in our middle-aged budgies. It doesn't mean they have to suffer, but just that you might have to constantly manage it.

Throughout the day Hezz he sits fluffed up and sleeping, only moving to eat. It was me who found the article at Beauty of Birds, the vet just mentioned alcohol in the MT and so recommended the dried stuff. I couldn't argue the point at thst time, because as much as I had heard of MT I didn't know too much about it other than it treated liver disease. He hasn't been sick, and isn't scratching his vent any more, he seems to be pooping better since I bathed his wee bum the other day, but they are still a bit black and slightly yellowy during the night. Ben is completely lost without him to play with, so he's a bit quiet now too, they played together all day. Tonight as always I feed them the remainder of the days seeding grass from my hand and straight away Max is there on my hand chomping away, to look at him you'd think nothing was wrong come 6pm but in the morning and through the day he looks miserable. I saw him drink tonight so hopefully the MT helps. I will speak to the vet Friday about the avipro. Thanks again Hezz xx

So it sounds as though the vet is open to the use of milk thistle for helping with liver problems, which is good. Not all are open to herbal remedies, unfortunately.
The medication Max is on could be changing the colour and consistency of his poops. I've found when Misty has been vomiting (I realise that Max isn't), which I've taken to mean that his liver is giving him grief, the over-night poops after are rather green. I usually give him an extra drop in his water for a day or two after. (Touch wood he hasn't had one for a while.)
You could try giving him a drop straight into his beak. It'll make a mess of his white feathers, but might start to work faster.

I didn't know I could do it that way. He is already on 2 seperate syringes of medicine in the morning, would a third be too much.
If not, is it ONE single drop.

He seems a bit brighter today Marianne, still not chirping, but not fluffed up and sleeping so much.
I have a large window in my bedroom which opens in, so I took their cage through there today, opened the window and they got some sun and fresh air and heard the other birds.
Poops are a bit more firm today too.
Back at vet tomorrow morning 9am. Just about to get them ready for bed.
Thank you for asking Marianne.

Oh that is good. I am hoping it's a temporary glitch and he'll recover.
Custard went a whole month without singing, I thought I would lose him. Then he suddenly perked up.
He has a serious liver issue, has done for years, I trim his beak at least every 3 weeks and try and feed him up as he is quite light (39g currently).
But he's still with us.

Does Max eat dill? it's meant to be very good for the liver, Custard loves it.

I can't get either of them to eat Dill Marianne.
I bought celery today, they love the leaves but not the celery itself.
They also had alfalfa sprouts.

Oh that's a shame. I just peg dill to the cage tops and my lot love it.
Celery in small one inch sections clipped to the top of cages is a success too. Maybe they'll try it in time?

I'm glad he seems to be a little brighter. I couldn't get mine to eat dill either, even mixed it in with their seeding grasses. Have you tried that, jellybean?? Ben and Max might be more amenable to trying it that way than my guys were. If you think Max is seeming a little better, I wouldn't stress him too much with an extra drop of MT - I don't think it would hurt one way or the other - I was thinking of a way to get some into him quickly so that he might start to feel better a little sooner.

On the way back from the vet with Max (and Ben) on the way there they were playing kissy kissy and both preening each other. What a difference in 5 days. Vet was very pleased with him, she said the lump had gone down. I showed her the Milk Thistle drops I'd bought, which she took a note of, she said another company did them but then stopped manufacture. I said the good people on the Budgie forum had helped 😁 She thinks the MT would be more beneficial syringed into his beak 0.05ml. To give this with avipro sprinkled onto food for 1 month, and to stop the medication after Monday. Back in 1 month for a check up. Think I've a few more grey hairs this week 😁

Ben must be happy to get his friend back, it must have brought a tear to your eye to see them preening eachother
