Is sunshine good for our buds in the same way it is for us? When I sit in the conservatory I always take Charlie with me in his cage, and he seems to love it in there. Obviously I don’t have the cage in direct sun, but usually the big window is open so he is getting plenty of fresh air. So I was wondering just what benefits he is getting?

He will only benefit from the sun providing it is not through glass, which prevents the uv rays getting through. You must also give him the benefit of some shade so that he can choose whether or not to sit actually in the sun. I expect Charlie appreciates the light as well as the sound of the birds outside.

Shirls is right, only way they can actually get any vit D is to be outside either in their cage or in an aviary It is in fact essential that they get it, some of us have acadia lamps for our birds in the darker months to help with UV levels

Couldn’t put him in the sun in the conservatory it’s too hot, I have the blind down behind him. If we get the right conditions,, that is a day when the sun is not too hot, I will take him outside with me.

I've had Stuart outside in his travel cage a few times (when the Guinea pigs are out in their runs). I only have grass in the front garden, which is quite small, so it does look a bit like a menagerie. My neighbour joked the other day that they'd know where to go when the floods come - my ark. Lol
