Hello again Last night was a long night! We fed Pip drops of water and a drop or two of Ensure every 2h with a short break so I could sleep before work; I put a heater next to the travel cage as I wanted to get a few hours in a row of sleep and couldn't keep reheating the heating pad. Around 5 am or so, I decided to appeal to his tummy and set him up on my lap on a towel and offered some millet, which he took willingly, he kept his little eyes closed but he DID eat! We always gave him the nickname "Stomach" -- as he's a food motivated guy. After his millet he seemed to perk up so enough with the Ensure and now just millet for him. Since that time (it is now 12:30 noon our time) my husband who took him to his office, sent me a photo of him... on his perch! He has taken in two capfuls of water on his own. I don't know why the vet gave him the shot of Ivomec nor why she did not treat both Pip and Kiwi as I brought Kiwi as well to be treated as I have read that both birds need to be treated. The vet is very kind but I think I will get a second opinion on the treatment as it doesn't hurt to do this and of course now my faith is shaken. As mentioned in this thread by Bloom there is another avian vet on our island that we can see. Poor Kiwi on the other hand has been calling and calling for his friend this morning. I hope that by the time Pipsqueak returns home this afternoon Pip is well enough that we can reunite them or at least have them in the same room. Here's a photo that my husband sent me of Pipsqueak on his perch today.

What a little fighter. I'm sure it was your love and care through the night that helped him make it. Keep getting better little fella.

lovemyzoo Oh this is so good to hear!! I have been thinking of the little guy. He sounds like a fighter. I bet Kiwi will be so very happy to see him. This has made my day. I have to admit that I also was wondering why an injection. As well both of them should have been treated topically. No need to fret about that now though as I'm sure your TLC has given him the fighting chance. May he continue to rebound!!

Perching is a good sign, for sure. Fingers crossed that he continues to improve and is back to his usually chirpy self in no time. So glad for you that he is doing better.

Wow such good news, lets hope he goes from strength to strength. You can worry about treating your other bird for scaly mites later. No more injections though.

Oh I am so relieved to hear Pipsqueak is getting better. Hopefully on the mend to becoming fully recovered. Perching is such a good sign, as well as eating some millet. Fingers crossed still for you all.

What a shame for the little mite, things are looking up but it would be nice to have an update hopefully positive.

Here we are three months later and Pipsqueak is sick again. But it is something new. I don't know if it is because he has been "knocked back" due to the initial problem with the Ivermec shot (although no mite return and no signs of it in his friend) or because he is just a sickly type but he had some difficulty navigating his flight the past few days. I thought he may be sick so I took him in for some nice hot steam showers with us and added ACV to his water. We gave him cooked egg and he loved it! But last night he started making a funny sound a squeak that sounded like a sneeze and turning his head only one way It almost looks like he's having a stroke or something. No Avian vets open now, on Sunday, and no emergency vets in our area, so off to the emergency avian vet first thing tomorrow morning. He really doesn't seem very good, I'm concerned that he's turning his head only to one side every time he makes the weird sneezing noise His cere is brownish red too. He has taken some water and he has taken some Ensure and a bit of seed too recently.
