I really hope the outcome is more positive. If the second Avian vet agrees with the first then you may have to make a hard decision but one that would be the kindest for your friend. Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

I agree with Marianne Marlow. Don’t get rushed into making a decision. If you want a second opinion then that’s your right. You said in an earlier post that the vet wasn’t avian, have I got that right? Whereabouts do you live? That's true, and something that's hard to remember when we have been made to feel otherwise by the vet. He found an exotic qualified veterinary, we live in central London. There are only two places we found that have any form of avian experience. We have booked to see one in Richmond, but that's not until Wednesday evening sadly I had the same discussion with my vet at Christmas regarding my Squawk but I took him home and the vet respected my decision. There are a few people on here from London so if any see this post they can always tell you what avian vets they use. There’s a CJ Hall I’ve seen mentioned on here in London and there’s also a thread with avian vets on the forum in case you want to try anywhere else. If not let us know how it goes on Wednesday and I send love to your little bud.

I know that this is an old list, but it still might be of some help ... budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/252/list-avian-vetsI personally wouldn't be putting my trust in any vet that told me I had 24 hrs to make the decision to put my pet to sleep. That makes me quite angry. Gout in Birds Treatment
Treatment depends greatly on underlying cause of gout. However, water should be provided to for your bird while being is treated to and from the veterinarian; this will prevents dehydration. Decreasing uic acivital in cases of gout, and the veterinarian will usually prescribe urine acidifiers for this.
Reducing proteins, calcium, vitamin D3, and salt, incombination with an increase of phosphorus and soft water intake, are all important dietary changes to treat gout. A feed analysis is also necessary, ensures the bird receives an appropriate intake of minerals, proteins and vitamins. Multivitamins, including vitamin K, are sometimes used to help the liver and kidneys function normally, and can help control gout. I agree with you Hezz, any vet that pressures you into putting your pet to sleep within 24 hours is not a good vet. I take it that the avian vet you're seeing in Richmond is C.J. Hall? I have never been but know people that have and they have a very good reputation. I'd wait and see what they say.

Hi Everyone,
Apologies that we have been silent lately, we have been going through alot of emotions and it's been a very difficult time.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone one of you for your help and kindness, it's beautiful to know that people will care for a complete stranger and their budgie.
Unfortunately, Azul passed away at 3:16pm this afternoon, whilst in the palm of my hand. We had been nursing Azul for the past couple of weeks, however, his time had come to an end. Although we are immensely upset, it gives us comfort knowing that Azul is no longer in pain and was with us whilst he passed on.
Thank you again!

I am so sorry for your loss. You had done all you possibly could to help the poor little love, and being held by you would have given him much comfort in his passing moments. He knew how much you loved him. Rest in Peace, little Azul. Your humans are missing you terribly. xx
