Some of you may remember one of my dogs is diabetic and has cushings. He's had an issue with his face, as in it being swollen, for a while. First the vet said it was a sore throat, then an eye infection. Ive had antibiotics, eye drops, nothing worked. It came to a halt on Wednesday I took him in and asked for an xray as I suspected he had a sore tooth and possible abscess. He was booked in this morning.... They operated and removed two back teeth which had abscesses and one of them had bacteria eating into his bone so the gums been packed and is stitched!!!!!! He is home now and I'm looking after him, he's a ton of pills to take as well as all his normal meds.
I'm so proud of him, bless his little heart. The lesson of my experience is.... If you are in doubt go back and question the diagnosis. Vets are great, but you know your pet better than anyone. If I'd not taken Alfie back god knows the mess we'd be in now.

Couldn't agree more, clt80 - trust your own instincts first. Professionals can and do get it wrong at times. Hopefully poor pup is on the mend and will soon be back to his normal self. Poor Alfie, going through all that.

Criky well done for going back. You possibly saved him from a much worse experience. I know from my own botched foot treatment, medical professionals don’t always get it right. Get well soon Alfie x

He is such a good boy, let's me put his eye drops in daily for his cataract and test his blood for his glucose levels. My other dog is a Staffordshire bull terrier and also a madam! I often think if she had as many issues as Alfie I'd be in serious trouble as she'd not let me do anything to her!!!
Alfie seems a bit perkier today. I always think they feel better being in their own surroundings at home.

What a relief for you and Alfie. Vets can surely get it wrong as the original vet did with Squawk. Once he’s healed Alfie will feel like a new boy. My dog Shannon had trouble with her teeth and when I got them scaled, polished and she had 5 teeth removed she was back to her usual self and no longer grumpy. Well done to your tenaciousness in getting Alfie sorted clt80.

If anyone's got any spare positivity or prayers please send them my way. Alfie had his op Friday, been so poorly since and was admitted yesterday as an emergency and put on a drip. Came Home last night as they don't have staff who stay all night, they just pop in every few hours. Had an horrendous night, and he's going back in 25 mins. His poor little face is swollen beyond belief. I actually broke down and cried yesterday after he was home, he's in such a mess.

Ouch, poor little fella. Sending all positive and healing vibes to Alfie the dog. I do hope he gets better this time round, clt80. I suppose his little body is not so good at fighting infection due to already being compromised with the diabetes and cushings.
