Today has been hell. Turns out he still had part of a tooth left in the gum, a bit of the root. His bone was so brittle due to the infection and there are 3 roots per dog tooth and he had 2 teeth out, and they are so near his eyeball let alone with the bone breaking away due to infection it ended up being a nightmare op on Friday, hence a bit being left in. Anyhow - he's had surgery again this afternoon to get this bit of root out, they managed it and they let me bring him home. He is groggy, very sore and swollen and still has a catheter in his front leg as we are back tomorrow at 9am. That's right Hezz, the diabetes in particular lowers his immune system. I think the diabetes has caused his teeth issues, no matter how clean you keep them, the high glucose rots them away from the inside. Priority now is his recovery and building the brittle jaw bone back which I've been told strong anti biotics over a long period should do. For me - it's an early night. I am absolutely shattered beyond belief. Work have been great, they have let me come in late and leave early to pick him up. Having support from people, including on here, well - it just helps so thank you.

Thank you all. Hoping for a good nights sleep tonight!! Vet again this morn 9am, I told them how much better he seemed last night, and he slept better (on my bed!!!!) so no iv fluids today and they took the catheter out his leg. Poor love hated being there, he was never bothered about going the vets and would waltz in, but now he hates it.
I've been off work today so I could keep an eye on him. Had a hair appt which I was cancelling until my lovely mother said she'd come around and sit with him whilst I got the haircut. Did me good, can't beat a bit of pampering. When I got back the dogs and I just chilled on the sofa and had a lazy day. What a difference a day can make.

Oh gosh, how awful for Alfie. It's great they were able to get the root out and that he's starting to feel better. I'm glad you were able to have a relaxing day today. You and Alfie are amazing coping with so much xx

Oh good, glad he's picking up. Hope you have a settled night. I agree about the hair, I missed three appointments in three weeks and I said on the fourth week I was going come what may. Then my hubby asked me to stay at home to take delivery if a courtesy car. I was very good and flatly refused so he had to change his appointment 😂
Well done Alfie, take it steady and get well soon, big cuddle from me and Rosie(my sons dog I am looking after).

Good on you, keeping your appointment; well done Mum for stepping in when you were in desperate need of a little primping. I am soooo glad that Alfie is feeling much better - a lazy day on the couch was probably what the vet would have ordered for you all.
