He is a very handsome chap indeed frogchirp, you are a star for taking him in and looking after him. I'm sure he will warm to you in time especially with the help of your pretty little canary. Names please for both???

Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for the kind words. Name of the Canary is Klaus, and budgies is Lime.
Everything seems to be fine for him now. He seems to love the attention he is getting at home. He even eats millet from my hand inside the cage. It's crazy considering how afraid he was when I got him at first.
I had no idea that budgie could be so easily socialized. I could never get my cockatiel really used to humans(though I was younger then), and the canary took so much patiens to socialize that I was afraid the budgie would be too difficult of a challange. In my first post I said that I wanted to provide a good home for him but that I really didn't want him. Let's just say I take that last part back.

Canaries are notoriously hard to tame, so you have done well with little Klaus. It is possible that Budgie Lime has been well treated at some stage of his life and can remember that not all humans are unkind. Now that he is feeling safe again, it does sound as though he is warming to you very quickly. I am so glad that you have decided not to rehome him.

I'm so glad budgie Lime is warming to you so soon and that you have decided to keep him. He has weedled his way into your heart already and very soon you will wonder how you managed without him! Looking forward to hearing more updates on your (his) progress, and if you can some pictures too.

Hello I have bene thinking abou making an update and frequent this forum for some time but have been so busy that I have been forgetting. This will probably be my last update on this topic so I will make it a big one. I will be staying active on this forum though. As I have said befor I am gratefull for all the kind and encouraging words I recived. I was always planing to keep him but that was more out of pitty. That changed ofcourse and I have fallen in love with him. He is pretty much completly settled into his forever home at this point. Some nights ago I heard that he was awake past midnight and saw that he would wake up and cling to the side of his cage at the tiniest sound. So he has a seperate sleeping room now. With some work he step up on my finger and lets me give him a little belly rub, but trying to rub his head results in tiny warning bites. I am sure I would have mde further results at this point but I have been trying to take it very slow. Yes Hezz his former owners were not exactly bad to him. He even had a budgie buddy there for some time who died later on. The problem was that I think they just grew tired of him and let him be for himself. His cage was on the floor and they had a bunch of cats that were harrasing him. And about the canary: I was honestly lucky. I got him when he was 2 months old. He was not hand fed or tame but was super curious and would come out of his cage and explore whenever I left it open, so I would take the cage to my room and let him hang around all day. Overtime he just got so used to me that nowdays he even naps with me. Here are some pictures taken just before this post. I was attempting to make Lime step up on my finger but he was too stubborn. I started of by showing him Klaus hanging around with me. Then rubbed his belly very lightly. As you can see he is not looking super comfortable, but he came down form his usual perch and began playing with his toy as soon as I took my hand out wich I take for a good sign. Edit: It looks like I am poking him or something but I am just rubbing his belly with the tip of my finger.

Sounds like he has settled in very well I'm so pleased for you, him and Klaus! If he lets you get that close to him, he trusts you a bit!

That is really so good, and I am so very happy that he has stolen a little piece of your heart. You are doing a great job with him and slower is much better than going too fast and breaking all the trust that you had previously built up. At this stage you are still making deposits into the trust bank. The more deposits you have made into this bank means the more is left when some is taken out when and if something happens that puts that trust to the test, and there will be times when that happens, when you need to hold him to check him out for his own good health, or whatever it might be. Sounds like things are going well, if somewhat more slowly that you might wish for.

He is gorgeous, and I think your are wonderful for taking him in. Lucky little birdy....... I am just wondering, do you cover him up at night? They like to be settled down around 8-9.....and need about 10 hours sleep. My Charlie is spoiled ( I have a nightlight on for him) ....but that’s just silly me ☺️☺️

Thank you, and yes I do cover him. But for some nigths, whevener I would go up to get a glass of water or something, I thaught I heard some activity from his cage but ignored it. A few days ago when I heard his cage rattling around 11 o'clock, I pulled up the sheet and saw that he was at clinging to the wall of his cage, exactly like my cockatiel when he used to have night terrors. I am sure it's because of my old door, making a slaming sound when I open it, frightening him. His cage is in the room next to mine. I know the obvious solution would be to not close my door when I go to bed but... some people have to wash their hands over 20 times a day and some of us can't fall asleep with an open door, (humans are weird) so I let him sleep in a quit room away form mine so that he wont be disturbed.
Edit: I will probably look into getting a white noise machine or a night light if needed.

I would definitely try the night light it just might settle him. Also I wonder if you just had some low music playing until you went to bed....
