Quite a few members have the Ferplast cage, me personally I would say no to the hamster care, the Ferplast would be much better.
Hello and welcome from Pip and me.

I have a Ferplast Piano 6 and have three budgies in it at present. Have had five in there with no problem. It's a brilliant cage and perfect for flying and lots of toys. The tall cages on wheels in my opinion are pretty to look at, but don't give the birds good horizontal flying. Hope that helps.
Definitely a no, no, re the hamster cage.

I wouldn't have a problem with the hamster cage - the dimensions are good, the bar spacing is fine - the only thing I don't like about it is the clip-on bottom tray. They are known for losing budgies.
So much depends on how much flying time your birds were going to get, as to the size of the cage. I don't know the ferplasts so won't comment there.
If you are going to get two more budgies, rather than just one more as a friend for your current one, I would suggest that you get one first, introduce after quarantine, and get another a little later. If you get two together, they will bond during quarantine and your resident bird will still be on the outer. That may happen anyway, but you can possibly avoid this by not getting the two together.

Thanks for the replies everyone! So do you think I would be better off to get one budgie? My logic was three would be better for some reason, but if two are more likely to be a better idea then that is absolutely fine by me! So if I were to get two, the minimum would mean that the ferplast woukd be big enough for two. If I were to get two, do you think I play it safe with the ferplast of give them some more room with the alaksa? I would obviously remove the level and stuff. I wouldn't really move the cage too much, I don't suppose, so I am nkt sure how much of a problem the loose bottom would be for me. Thanks

Why not get one budgie friend and see how things go?? I have no preference for even numbers - most of my budgie-life has been with odd numbers and everything has worked out fine, so that isn't really an issue. Having one new bird at a time does give you more scope to set some training in place while they are in quarantine. Much harder to work with two at the same time, and sometimes keeping things simple is best. The Piano 6 is quite a bit taller than the other cage, otherwise the footprints are basically the same. I always say get the biggest cage that you can afford, both pocket and space. While budgies don't require height as much as width in a cage, having that extra height does give you more options for setting up perches etc. Go with the bigger cage.

I too would go for the bigger cage.

I have a Ferplast Piano 6 for my two budgies and it’s a great size for them. I got it from Zooplus which was the cheapest site I found.

I have a piano 6 too and really like it. At the moment I have 2 budgies living in it full time and I'm just in the process of introducing a 3rd budgie. He spends time in the piano 6 with the other 2 during the day but goes home to bed in his own cage at night due to squabbles over swings (even thought there are 5 swings and only 3 budgies!) I got my piano 6 on Zooplus too.
I wouldn't get the Alaska hamster cage. It's a great cage for hamsters and I know lots of people who have one but it will make cleaning more difficult as it doesn't have pull out trays at the bottom like the Piano 6, making it much harder to clean out the seed and paper from the bottom of the cage.
