Oh dear I am so sorry........Now you know it’s ticks, can you stop it happening? I assume they are in an Avery .....So is it close to long grasses or similar? The ticks are obviously close to the birds and can jump., so if you can clear the area next to them it should solve the problem. Also be careful to check yourself carefully. How did you remove the ticks? Because if you don’t get the whole tick out, it can still kill the bird... It seems as though once the tick is attached it could be too late for the bird, if I understand correctly they inject the toxin to stop the blood clotting as the attach so that the blood flows easier.

I do know that ticks dont like garlic, so are you able to make up a garlic wash/spray to spray everywhere - even give to your birds to drink so it comes out of their skin? I can give you a recipe to a garlic wash (sourced from here): Garlic cloves are boiled in a saucepan of water for 20 minutes. The cloves are removed and the water allowed too cool. The garlic water is diluted at a ratio of 1 part garlic water solution to 10 parts water in a watering can. The water mixture is then watered onto the leaves of your hostas. On hot sunny days apply the water solution in the evening so that the leaves of you plants are not scorched.I know this is a recipe to help with slugs and snails on your hostas but it does remove aphids and other pests too so is bound to work on ticks You can also get a tick twister to remove the tick if the bird is still alive but it will require a course of antibiotics to kill of any nasties

This is awful. I hope you are able to get rid of the ticks and save some of your remaining birds.

More dead birds this morning, managed to remove a lump from a dead bird, you were all right ,they are ticks I’m so sorry wharnsby for all these losses. I had no idea that birds could fall victim to ticks. At least now you have an answer so can move forward with preventing losing more birds.

I'm so sorry this has happened, heartbreaking. I'm not sure if this would help, but if you got a tick remover could you check in the morning, after work and before they go to bed for ticks and remove any found. I guess you'd need to know how long a tick needs to be attached before a bird dies but anything is worth a try.

Im surrounded by farm land, which has just been harvested. This has caused the ticks to move and get to my birds. This happened the same time last year but not as bad and I did not realize it was ticks. Ive now only got two healthy birds and one which I removed a tick from using a tick remover but its not looking good. I think once a tick has latched on , its to late. After 40 years without any problems I think I may call it a day as I can see this will keep on happening due to my location, is a miserable thing to deal with.Thank you for all your replies

Oh no....I am so very sorry for you and your budgies, but how where you to know. Budgies are quite fragile really so a tick bite would be quite a big thing for them to get over. I don’t see any way you could prevent ticks from getting in, so sad for you 😥

I’m sorry too. If you change your mind about keeping birds or want some advice may I suggest you email an avian vet? See if there’s anything that can help. Try John Chitty, Anton Vets, Andover. If anyone will know what to do it’s John.

Good luck.
