I’ve had my bank call me before, it was them but I still said I would call them. I learnt the hard way many many tears ago with a bank scam.

The easiest way out of all this is to ask 'how do I know you are genuine, can I call you back?' Then, look up the telephone number yourself, make sure you get the dialling tone and then phone them - just if you want to of course! If they stall you and keep you on the phone, it is doubtful that they are genuine!
The guys that had me on the phone when I queried who they were, they said they would send me their own personal BT reference code, which I must not give to anyone else, which he did, and he read it back to me, which in fact was a load of b******t.

I think a lot of the companies that intend to do any sort of "maintenance" would write to you as they would be covering the area - and you dont have to be with BT as all lines are BT lines anyway so sadly they would still get some people
