As some of you may know, my Brother has a little Lhasa Apso (Buddy) who I get to watch when he goes on holiday. I adore the little fella.
He was 3 last Wednesday (14th August) But he was a rehome dog, and my Brother got him when he was 14 months old.
Now, the problem is, he has started to develop a few "skin tags" he was taken to the vet because my Brother was worried about the first one last year, the vet sent a sample off and it came back as benign. But he paid to have it removed the same day Buddy was getting castrated.
But, another 3 have appeared, which the vet said might happen, one in particular on his right hip is quite prominent, more so when he has been to the groomer.
My Brother was back at the vet last week to ask if there was anything other than surgery that he could do to prevent these, or to kill off the ones already there other than surgery, which he isn't prepared to put the little guy through again. But he got no constructive answers from the vet, other than surgery.
Have any of you lovely people with dogs had similar problems. Or can you suggest anything that would help.

Oh my so handsome 💙
I’m sorry I can’t really answer your question but my dog had a skin tag removed from the corner of her eye when she was about 6 which was benign. She later had another tiny one on the edge of her eye come up that I’ve left. She’s never had anymore and I don’t know why she’s got them. She now has two tiny round black lumps on one of her ears that I’m monitoring but they look different to skin tags.

Thanks Jane, they don't seem to annoy him in the least. It would be nice to have a solution to get rid of them though.

Hi jellybean, my little dog used to have a lot of skin tags , I used to get the vet to have a good look at them every year when she had her booster injections......I think dogs are like humans, some are more prone to skin tags than others. What an adorable dog 😍

I've seen stuff to treat skin tags on humans, thought there might be something similar for dogs that I just didn't know about. Thanks ladybird.

I imagine they are only a nuisance at grooming times, jellybean?? Except for areas, such as Jane mentioned near the eye, where the tag may be a hindrance, they are generally nothing to be concerned about. Mac developed one soon after we first got him ... vet said they were fairly common, mostly in younger dogs and often a hormonal thing (even if desexed), and that they usually went away on their own. Mac's did; he only ever had the one. Hope that is of some help.

Thanks Hezz, he goes to the same groomer all the time, so she knows, and is really careful when grooming him. Unfortunately, his don't look like they are about to disappear.

Thanks Steve, I don't know if this breed are more prone to skin tags, but, no, they don't seem to bother him.
You must love them Steve if you've had 5, they are very strong willed 🤣 but great little watchdogs, as you'll already know 🐶🤣

I meant 5 at the same time plus a chihuahua all within a few years of age, We sure had a full house with them all. There were 3 boys and 2 girls in that we had 2 alpha males and 1 alpha female. Feeding time for them was a bowl in each corner of the kitchen and the 2 girls in another room and me as the referee in case of food fights as some ate quicker than others lol. Have a look at the Kennel Club website as they have a breed section for all dogs it will tell you loads of general info hth

One of mine has lots! As well as lots of lumps and bumps. I've only had one skin tag removed as it was getting sore at the top of her leg and only because she was having an anaesthetic for something else at the end time which she had to have done.
A vet has said as long as they are not too big you can tie them off to restrict the blood flow and eventually they will drop off. I've never bothered with this I have just left them be and I can't justify an anesthetic just for vanity purposes.
Everytime I go the vet I get him to check her entire body to make sure none are suspicious. The older the dog I find the more lumps and skin tags they seem to get.

That's how my Brother feels too clt80, he's not prepared to put him through unnecessary operations. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.
