Thank you clt80 . Our little boy is still fighting so hard. To our astonishment, he perked up a little bit this evening after we had felt he was very near the end. He's in a warm, quiet room and has been asleep for much of the day. We popped our heads in to check on him and we were very surprised to see him awake and actually swinging on his swing. He hopped down onto the perch nearest the door of his cage so we let him out. He had a little scamper around the sideboard and ate quite a lot of seed and even had a nibble on some fresh herbs. My husband and I couldn't believe our eyes. He was quite inquisitive and looked a lot more alert than he has been for the last few days. After a short time, he started looking very sleepy again so we put him back in his cage. He promptly fell asleep again but he has since been chirping a little bit and did a couple of 360s around the sides of his swing. We have just given him his evening medicine and he's now asleep again. I daren't even begin to hope that this is the start of any sort of recovery but it was heaven to see him a little bit nearer to his normal self than he has been for quite some time now.

He is indeed a fighter. I’m glad he’s perked up and eaten. He must be feeling a bit better in himself. Maybe meds making him so tired too
Hers’s hoping for more progress after a good nights sleep

Hugs for you and your special boy. Have you tried some boiled and grated egg for him? It's meant to be easy to eat and digest. We gave sky some twice a day when he had agy. I would boil an egg and put half in the fridge for later as its only good for a couple of hours.
Fingers and wings crossed. I know how hard this is xx

I am so sorry that you and he are going through this. It is a terrible place to be, not knowing when is the right time to say goodbye. He will take comfort from being cupped in your hands, their warmth itself will be helping him stay comfortable. Do you have a heat lamp or heating pad you can use to help him keep his body temp up?
Seed that has been soaked in hot water for a short time, drained, dried slightly and fed is supposed to be easier for them to digest, and millet itself is an easy food for them as well, if that helps at all.
Fingers crossed that he continues to improve. xx

Thanks Marianne Marlow for your suggestion about the boiled egg. I did that yesterday and he has actually had a tiny bit, which is good. Also Hezz I will give the soaked seed a go today. Bobby is still so tired this morning but he has eaten something and is giving the occasional chirp as there is some quiet music on in the room, which he loves. Thank you Jane and ffiscool for your messages too. I will just continue to watch him so closely to see which way this is going. I am feeling stronger today after yesterday's deep sadness. I am so responsive to his moods, it's crazy! The moment I even hear him chirp, my heart lifts.

Hi ladybird , thank you for your message. it's so difficult to know. He is just so sleepy but he has very alert moments too. He is drinking and eating a tiny bit but then he's hardly expending any energy so I guess he won't be that hungry or thirsty. I don't really know what to do now. He's incredibly ill but there are small glimmers of hope that I feel it is too soon to make a decision about putting him to sleep, poor little thing. I will keep watching him closely and just see how it progresses today. Many thanks again for your concern. x

It's been heartbreaking to read this thread so I was dreading clicking on it today, but after reading about how Bobby perked up yesterday it's good to hear that he is still fighting and there is hope.
As always, there has been some great advice from other members.

Am so sorry I have not replied sooner to you (have been so busy lately) but I just must say my heart goes out to you.
If you have caught this early enough and he has enough weight to see him through the medication he must just make it.
I am on my knees praying for you and hope that my thread could have saved another budgie. Here's hoping it's your buddy *hugs* to you xx

It’s very encouraging reading your post @samwiseg. I am still being realistic about the massive challenge Bobby is facing but he has only lost a little bit of weight and he was a very strong, fit bird before this all started so he definitely has a chance. Not much has changed in the last 24 hours but that also means it hasn’t got any worse either.

I do hope Bobby recovers - just to make you aware Marianne Marlow informed me that he might actually lose a bit of weight being on Amphotercin. Also, the vet made me aware if you do get it on your hands wash them straight away afterwards (it wont burn you) but it is really nasty stuff and can do horrible things to your skin (apparently).
