Bobby is a very hungry little bird!! He’s eating and drinking with gusto. Still more tired than normal but definitely holding on in there. He absolutely hates taking medicine - my goodness, I thought my children were bad but he is a whole other level!! He is easy to catch (as he is putting up less of a fight in his weakened state) but swerves left and right while we try and get the pipette into the side of his beak. I hope he doesn’t pick up any of the language I’ve been using when he sinks his beak into my finger! Despite his valiant evasion tactics, we are still managing to give him his full dose and it is possibly too early to call but may just be starting to take effect.

I can’t tell you how relieved I feel reading this....Bobby seems to be recovering. He sounds like a real little fighter and I know you won’t care one bit about his cheeky bites. It shows he has strength to fight.......go Bobby go...onwards and upwards in your recovery.......Am keeping everything crossed for this little fighter........Made my day reading this......

Keep eating and taking your medicine Bobby. He's certainly a little fighter.

That's the spirit, Bobby. Make Mum work for all the nasty she is subjecting you to. Fingers still crossed, here. Just make sure he is actually eating and not just mouthing his food and dropping it.

Well done. Not an easy feat medicating budgies. I don’t envy you.

Good advice. Thanks for that. I have checked and I think Bobby must be eating a reasonable amount as there are now plenty of healthy-looking poos in his cage. He’s sleeping a bit less now too so his energy levels must be picking up. He is still a long way off his normal, very chatty, mischievous self but we are starting to get glimmers of more normal behaviour, which was inconceivable a week ago. I am forcing myself to be realistic about his recovery. I know this is a horrible disease and that it can lie low for a bit then come back with a vengeance but at this moment the balance seems to be tipping in Bobby’s favour. He’s got his boxing gloves on and is putting up a serious fight!! I’m in awe of these remarkable birds!

Really pleased to hear that he is doing so much better. Keep eating Bobby! Poops with substance is a very good sign. Stress is the biggest enemy for a bud with this disease, the vet has probably told you that already, so keeping him in his normal happy environment with as few changes as possible is going to be your challenge from now on. I sincerely wish you and Bobby all the best.

Thank you everyone for your kind messages. More great advice Hezz - thank you. We are trying to keep him fairly quiet and he continues to do OK but it is slow-going. The amphotericin prescription said 10 to 30 days and I think we've got enough to do about 25 days so we'll just keep on with that and see where it takes us.

Thanks so much ladybird . Your lovely, positive message is such a great support! It's been a very rough ride but we are so desperate to get Bobby through this. The twice-daily medication is extremely challenging as he can't stand it but we know it's the best chance we have and we are managing to give him his full dose. He is definitely improving each day and perhaps the extraordinary strength he is showing when trying to avoid his medicine should be reassuring! He's sleeping much less, eating quite well and talking a lot...but his breathing isn't quite back to normal yet and he's still pulling at his feathers, particularly around his neck, which may be because his skin is irritated but could also be a sign of pain or some sort of inflammation from his condition. I don't know. I am continuing to marvel at his tenacity though and starting to believe we might just get on top of this! x
