Hi, I am very happy to tell you that Buddy (just over 4 months) and after having him for 6 weeks has settled in beautifully. He is hand tamed and when I put my hand in his cage he rushes over to have his head scratched. He has started his first moult, he loves egg and I would like to ask how much and how often can I give it to him? every day? how much etc.,? he also loves parsley/lettuce/coriander in small amounts .. and adores carrot tops. Many thanks in advance.

You can give him a small amount of egg every day while he's moulting but I would limit it to maybe once a week when he isn't, simply because it is a high-protein, high-energy food and our indoor budgies are prone to becoming tubby in their middling years. Anything to keep them fit and lean for as long as possible is a plus.

Thank you for your reply. When you say a small amount (and I hope this isn't a stupid question) could you be more specific please. Maybe a teaspoon? Many thanks.

I'd give half of the boiled egg mashed up finely, don't leave in the cage for any longer than 2/3 hours though. If you wanted you could put it in a blender with a little broccoli and some Sweetcorn.

So, half a boiled egg every day for how long? how long does their first moult usually last?

I doubt he would eat that much. A budgie won't eat more than the size of its head in a day. Just throw the rest away once it has been sitting for a couple of hours.
How long? For as long as he is moulting and you can see he is still growing pin feathers.
