This little guy seems to have turned a corner today, he is certainly more active and I saw him having a nap on one leg a short time ago, which he hasn't done for the past 2 days. When Ben calls to him he calls back, and is still holding onto the perches and flapping these little wings.
I went to the breeder this morning, what a lovely man he is, infact he and his wife are just the nicest people, when I bought Sam last week, my OH and I got chatting to them both, she mentioned that he was 80 years old, he certainly does not look his age, he said he has been breeding budgies since he was 13.
This morning I showed him the pictures of his runny poops, and said I had been at the vet, but I also mentioned apart from the poops, the vet said he was a healthy little bird.
He gave me a large bag of seed and was about to give me the same in Groats, but I said I didn't feed too many groats, so he gave me half a bag, and also asked did I need any cuttle fish, (which I'd just bought), he refused to take any money for either.
Told me to give him a phone and let him know how Sam was, we were there for 1 1/2 hours just chatting, he loves his birds, and the noise in his aviary was music to my ears.

Perhaps you could get some similar feeders, so he has something familiar. He ate from my hand a little while ago, I've held the dish up to him, ran my finger through it to let him see it was food, it is also at perch level, but he just won't go to it. We shall persevere Marianne

Hopefully the seed from the breeder will help make him feel better too. It's a tricky instruction from the vet because it's so hard to tell if a little bird is feeling better. It is, but I can tell from his actions today that he is feeling better within himself.

I’m so glad he’s feeling better jellybean. Did the breeder offer any suggestions regarding the runny droppings?

I’m so glad he’s feeling better jellybean . Did the breeder offer any suggestions regarding the runny droppings? Just as the vet said Jane, change of seed, I told him I bought all my seed from Haith's and he agreed they were a good seed supplier who he often uses himself. He also pointed out that birds used to a noisy aviary and having other birds for company, find it hard to adjust when they leave, I am beginning to think maybe this is a contributing factor too in his runny poops, is maybe stress. He's not 100% but he certainly is 50% better than he has been.

Great news, JB. As he matures and gets used to his old seed being mixed with the Haiths that you normally feed, I'm sure he will make the transition without any fuss. Nice to know that Ben is excited to have another budgie in the house. That all augers well for when the time comes for meet and greet.

I'm glad Sam is feeling better. The area of water around the solid looks smaller than yesterday, and the urates are more visible, so I'd say that's an improvement on yesterday. Hopefully they'll be better still tomorrow. What did he think of taking his medicine?
