Welcome to the forum Kixri. I’m sorry to read your beloved budgie Kite is so sick. She is beautiful 💗 and very fortunate to have found a loving home to see out her days. Take care and I hope we see her babies in due course.

I'm sorry to hear that Kite is so sick.
What kind of cancer does she have, is it a lump? was it diagnosed by an avian vet?

I'm sorry to hear that Kite is so sick. What kind of cancer does she have, is it a lump? was it diagnosed by an avian vet? We do not know exactly what type of cancer as we couldnt afford the xrays, about 3 weeks ago we noticed she was spending a lot of time at the bottom of the cage and realized she had a paralyzed leg. We rushed her to the vet and they gave us som antibiotics in the hopes that she just injured it and they offered xrays but we couldnt afford them. Over the course of the next 2 weeks she began to get weaker, we noticed she stopped using her other leg as well, she couldnt clean herself and was constantly covered in poop and she was not eating nearly as much. We also began noticing loss of feathers on her bottom and hard lumps/discoloration. We went back to the vet last weekend and they told us that it looks like cancer and to prepare for the worst, they gave us the option to have her euthanized but I couldn't bring myself to do it. As of yesterday she has green diarrhea and has labored breathing.

It sounds like a possible tumour then, pressing on a nerve in the leg.
Green droppings may be because shes not eating enough. Have you tried boiled egg?

I am so very, very sorry to hear about Kite. I know how hard it is to watch them deteriorate in front of your eyes and know that there is nothing you can do. My heart goes out to you. I lost my best childhood friend (a little budgie named Buddy) to a malignant tumor on his lung. I cried for weeks. Thank you for making Kite's last days comfortable.

I am sorry for your little Kite, to be going through this horrible disease. Don't be afraid to make the very hard decision if/when she seems to have no quality of life left. Only you can determine that. She certainly is a very pretty girl.

I made her an egg this morning after reading your comment Along with her normal seed/pellet mix and mango, hopefully she eats a bit more today. I find she really only wants to eat millet (surprise surprise) but as long as she is eating something im happy

Only you can determine that. She certainly is a very pretty girl. Thank you for your words of encouragement, so far she has been pretty good, other than getting weaker and not having the use of her legs she seems to be in pretty good spirits, she still sings sometimes, though not as often. I would only put her down as a last resort as you said if she has no quality of life but im working very hard to make sure she has the best life possible before the end

Kixri, have you tried her with soaked seed? It is a little easier for a sick bird to crack and digest, if you wanted to try her with something else. You can do it with hot water, leave a little while to cool and then feed, so that it is not hanging around with the possibility of it going off. I wouldn't leave it with her for too long for that reason also.

She's such a pretty girl, so sorry you're losing her. It's so sad when you can't help them, all you can do is love and care and she looks to be very loved, I'm sure she knows.
