Bit of a scare with Hector

Earlier I was standing next to Hectors cage as he'd fallen to the bottom and was climbing back up.
Then a split second later I noticed he was face down in the water trough unable to get out. Hector has a damaged foot and also he cannot fly, so he has some trouble getting about.

I quickly put my hand in and grabbed him, pulling him out of the water.

After holding him in my hands and getting some of the water off of him with some tissues - I put him in a tiny carry cage with some millet to dry off.

Heaven knows what would have happened if I was not there. My heart felt like it stopped for a second.

I have taken the big metal water pot out of the cage and replaced it with two smaller plastic ones on opposite sides of the cage that he cannot fall in to.

Oh, poor Hector!! That would have been scary. Have you given him the fountain-style drinkers?

It was terrifying, I thought he'd drowned after I pulled him out.

Thankfully he was just very soggy, so I warmed him in my hands.

An hour after being in the little cage, he was fine and ate some millet.

Hezz, no I don't use fountains, they have always leaked when I have tried in the past. I have a small white pot, you can see it in this photo of Hector relaxing from this morning.

Poor little guy, thank goodness you were there and he's OK. Maybe it's just the way the photo was taken but his nails look quite long, could that be hindering his movement at all?

The foot with the really long nail on, doesn't work, but I take your point.

I always worry about cutting his nails cos they are black and you can't see the quick.

Oh gosh, dreadful. I can imagine the shock and terror you felt. Thank god you were nearby and saw. Poor Hector. Lots of millet and thumby. Hector is the one who is in love with your thumb isn't he?

Yes thankfully Sam's are pink and quite easy to see the quick.  I wouln't even think about it if they were black.
