Hi I'm new here have my budgies buddy and Lou over a year now and they both have been in great health yesterday I noticed one of my budgies (buddy) had a waxy build up around his ear other than that he is eating and drinking like normal and is flying around acting his usual self. just wondering if anyone has any idea what it is as my nearest avian vet is over 40 miles away so to save buddy from the stress of the travel. thanks in advance hope someone has some insite for me please 😊

I have not heard of budgies having a wax build up before. Is there any way that you can get a photo?

Is it wax or is it a warty growth? Photo is definitely needed. Anything else to indicate a possible respiratory infection?

Hopefully it is a waxy build up, I had this with my Benji just after I got him. Unfortunately it meant a trip to the vet, as it was an infection and soon cleared up with Antibiotics. I think it was Baytril, that's what they usually prescribe. So, it may be a vet visit for you. If you have a little carry cage, covered up on the journey your little bird shouldn't get too stressed. My vet is a 50 mile round trip and Benji has been there several times with no problems. Are you in the UK jackie01? Benji also acted most normally, ate, drank, played but I think if left it would have got much worse. Hopefully it is just a little infection for your bird and not a growth of some sort.
