It's great that he likes the carrot. Dean Stockwell liked shredding carrot when he was on his own but since he met the other boys who aren't keen on carrot he decided he didn't like it after all. The three of them love broccoli, spinach and basil though. And they don't mind a bit of apple now and then. I've not tried peas or sweetcorn.Oh, do, criswell. I haven't met a budgie yet who doesn't like sweet corn or snow peas (mine prefer snow peas to sugar snaps). A funny story about snow peas ... when I was looking after Crackers the long-billed corella, his owner told me that he wouldn't eat snow peas, only sugar snap peas. I didn't have any sugar snaps and only a couple of manky old snow peas. I washed the best (one) of the snow peas and popped it through the bars of the cage expecting it to be thrown onto the floor but blow me down, Crackers ate it!! So off I went to the supermarket and bought some nice fresh snow peas, because after all, his owner clearly didn't know what he was talking about, washed and popped through the bars of his cage. You can only imagine the tantrum!! He got it in his beak, smashed the pea about half a dozen times on his perch, the same on the side of his cage, then, and I kid you not, SPAT it out onto the floor. I was well and truly dead if looks could kill! I was very happy to have those bars between us on that occasion.

I went out and bought fresh compost, and ordered snow peas yesterday, hopefully they'll be almost ready to pick when the meet and greet takes place.....and, hopefully Sam likes them. It would be nice to go out and buy them like you do Hezz, but I get a bit of a buzz out of watching them grow. Give them a go criswell, I'll bet the birdies love them.

That was so funny Hezz, so the owner was correct after all! How disappointing though, after you took the trouble to go and get some fresh ones, perhaps he only liked stale snow peas! I dont give my budgies or chooks for that matter, anything stale, rightly or wrongly. People do feed chooks scraps, but mine get fresh stuff, that I would eat myself!

I’ve never heard of snow peas, I’ve never even seen any in a supermarket (not that I recall anyway).

My animals only get fresh and in date.

Mine are not keen on mange tout. When I have served it in the past, they have either ignored it or chucked it on the floor.

This is how they look when they've grown:- ~That's interesting, so do you give them to your birdies like that, or do you plant them in the garden then jellybean? Mine like mange tout and sugar snaps, pip takes the peas out of sugar snaps and eats them separately.

I live in a flat Shirls, so don't have a garden, I grow them in the tray, just as the picture shows, then cut a bunch, put a small cable tie round them and clip to the cage. It's always Autumn time I grow them when the seeding grass is no longer available.
