My 4 month old budgie has some orange staining above his cere. I only realised how apparent it is today, but noticed in pictures I took in the past 4-5 days that he has had a faint stain then too.
He seems healthy and is not puffed up nor have I noticed any tail bobbing. He sneezes once in a while especially when he is preening, but this is something that I thought was usual? He also still chirps a lot (like R2D2) especially when he hears my KDramas (hehe).
More info:
I've started transitioning him to pellets a week and a half ago, and he has also recently been a bit moody (started about 3 days ago) and would run away when I try to get him to step up to me when he is in his cage.
His poop is also normal, lighter than usual but I am accounting that to the change to pellets.
He's my first budgie and I'm thinking of taking him to the vet, but am also a little tight on money so I want to make sure.

Hello and welcome to the forum chouismomma. Firstly, I have no experience of the use of pellets, have you thought that it may be colouring from the pellets that have transferred to above your budgies cere? I don't know what colour the pellets are. Secondly, have you given him any veggies that would stain his face. Some of my budgies end up with orange faces when they eat raw carrot. I would ask why are you transitioning your birdie to pellets? Some countries/vets do recommend this, but I believe most of us on the forum don't use them unless there is an absolute necessity. Budgies in the wild don't eat pellets and our domestic budgies should keep well on a varied and balanced diet. Can you post a picture of your birdie so we can see what his face looks like, that would help a lot.

As Shirls has said a photo would be of great help here This really could be anything and if he is a solitary budgie and hasn't gt a friend to clean it off for him, it will probably stay there longer than it would normally. It is important to point out that it could be a respiritory infection but as also mentioned the pellets or vegetables. My boys get lovely orange faces when they eat carrot!

Here's a photo of him 3 days ago... And here's a photo of him today... The staining is much less and I've decided to take him off of the pellets and just give him a complete diet of seeds, fruits, veggies and eggs. He's also has one of those scratching perches that's red and I realised that that could be it too. 😅

What lovely pictures of a beautiful birdie. Yes, you are right, I think it is just stain from the perch and or the pellets. I'm so glad you have taken him off the pellets. He looks really healthy and nothing for you to worry about chouismomma.

He's a beautiful little bird. I think the stain is from the perch in the background, it looks the same colour.
If the perch is the rough kind thats supposed to keep his nails trimmed, please remove it, as this type of perch will give your birdie bumblefoot.

I think the perch is the culprit as well, but I would leave it in place (sorry, JB). The odd rough perch is good for the health of their feet; sand paper is a whole different issue. Does he have any other tree branch perches in his cage or only the rope ones that can be seen in the photos? He needs perches of differing thicknesses and textures to keep his feet healthy and supple.

Strawberries are currently a hit!!!
