Hi, wasn't sure where to post this but since I'm attaching video, I'll post it here. So Sam is now just shy of 6 months old but here cere is turning quite brown. She has always been very playful and loves to jump through her rings and also loves to play on her back. Lately she likes to flip onto her back on my laptop in front of videos that I may be watching. She will flip over nad wait for me to scratch her neck. All the while making that quacking sound that little hens make. With her cere turning brown however I guess I'm afraid of our playtime being mistaken by her as mating behavior. I (and my son) had a little solitary hen years ago that started laying eggs whenever my son would interact with her (she would sit on his glasses and coo). She became a chronic layer. When she would tire of sitting on one clutch she would start laying again with almost no time in between. She eventually succombed to egg binding at 3 yrs. old. I'm trying to avoid anything like this happening again. I have posted video below. Should I stop playing with her like this. It is only her neck that I touch but still...

It is very possible that you are encouraging her to become sexually orientated. While you say you only touch her neck, it is not the back of her neck that you touch, more her neck/chest area so you are actually touching her erogenous zones, and getting close to under her wing (she seems to lift it for you in one section there). I wouldn't encourage her game playing, and while you say "no more games", you do actually keep going with giving her what she wants. Usually if a bird is on their back and you offer your finger to their feet, they will grip your finger with the feet and flip back up the right way. I suggest that this is what you do, and no more rubbing around the chest. Either that or just ignore her completely, which is a bit hard if she has taken over the keyboard. Perhaps get up and walk away. I hope this works, as it may just help you understand how our parrots work imgur.com/QTukmBc

yep..this is what I was afraid of. I hate to stop interacting with her this way but it was starting to feel...well..wrong..lol. I was hoping that she was still too young to have to worry about this but it is what it is. I will shoo her off the keyboard and face the rath of a spurned lover...lol. Thanks Hezz

I know what you mean. I have the same with my sun conure. He is MY bird, and I'm his apparently, but at least with him I've been able to give him some "hump buddies" so he's not trying to get his rocks off on me. It has worked a treat. I've also gone through the whole chronic egg layer problem, but not a hen who has seen a human as a mate. Good luck with working through this one, and hope your relationship doesn't suffer too much.

This little girl just cracks me up, she's such an adorable pickle Yes, agree with Hezz , a little more of a, hand's off approach, would be advisable with her but i can see how difficult this is going to be

Does she ever get stuck on her back?

Does she ever get stuck on her back? Nope, never. She is a skilled acrobat. She weaves in and out of her oympic rings and never gets stuck. She grabs onto the clapper of her bells with her beak and swings back and forth. Thinking off renting her out to the circus.

Still laughing at your conure. Had a little male budgie as a child. Completely tame and an avid talker. He had a longterm..ahem..loving relationship with a small rubber figurine of Minnie Mouse....

My first budgie loved my big toe! It used to get the whole wing-wrap and a tiny puddle at the end. He never did team up with a girl.
