Had to get the pest people out today to remove a large wasps nest from our loft. I hate destroying anything like this but it had to go, they were coming into the house through the light fittings . This is one of the combs full of pupae, such a beautiful work of art, sorry wasps

It wouldn’t be so bad if they weren’t so bad tempered.

We had a wasp nest some years ago in the edge of our dining room extension flat roof. They made a right noise and definitely had to go. They get really bad tempered at this time year too when it’s cooler. Glad you got it sorted.

Oh 'eck that would freak me out a bit Its a shame to be sure, but its not like a colony of ladybirds or butterflies is it that you wouldn;t notice and wouldn't bother you at all? And there are plenty of wasps as well, not as if they are in decline like our beloved bees

Not good to have them in the house, but isn't their home fascinating? I found this in my shed on some chicken wire and assumed it was the beginnings of a wasp nest but it looks nothing like yours skysmum. Sorry, bit of a hi-jack to your thread skysmum. Perhaps it's a nest to something a bit more scary!!!

Wasps are not to be ignored, skysmum. Glad you found and destroyed before someone suffered too much. Nasty little blighters that they are.

Often this time of year the old queen loses control of the workers, which means they’re out more for themselves than the hive and are even more likely to sting. (Or so I vaguely recall one lecturer talking about)

It was very fragile and papery jellybean, and so light in weight. I will have to try and research it on the internet, now I know it's not a wasp nest.
