That can't be right....surely. I know, it seems excessive. It ooks like the smaller size is no longer available. Here’s my order from April for comparison.

I wonder where they source their seed from? Is it somewhere where the weather is not being kind to crops? Australia is suffering one of the worst droughts ever so it is understandable that any primary produce is going to rise in price here. There may be similar problems with crops elsewhere, where ever Haiths is getting their seed from.

You could be right Hezz but an explanation on their website would be all that we need, not just to whack up the price.....We shouldn’t just accept it without asking should we?

I have phoned them......the price rise is correct. It seems they are bringing out a new catalogue and the have to put their prices up because where they sauce their seeds from, the prices have risen so they have to increase their seeds accordingly . I complained that it was a BIG increase but they said sorry, and that was it...... Maybe someone else wants to have a moan too?

Hi all So nice to see old faces on here and new ones too! We are all not bad, thank you for asking Sol is overweight (his energy goes into chirping 24/7 and not much flying, on top of eating) so I’m having to try and get him to fly more. Sky is her usual hen self, currently going through a moult. Thankfully Sky has had no seizures for over a year now, which is such a relief. I’ve left a comment on Haith’s Facebook page but no one has replied to it yet - I’m guessing they won’t be changing the prices then by the sounds of things... I think I may have to find elsewhere which is a shame. Glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s a bit of a steep increase.

Just got this response "Good morning Marianne, Thank you for your email. I’m very sorry to learn of your concern regarding our prices and I do hope that I am able to provide an explanation. Our last price increase was introduced in 2016. We then reviewed our prices again in November 2018. As there had been changes in the market we were able to pass on savings to our customers, however this was only temporary. Recently we’ve made some changes to our prices which reflect our high quality products. We’ve never positioned ourselves to be cheap and cheerful but we are passionate about providing high quality, safe bird food, which is SuperClean. More information regarding our Quality Control can be found here - www.haiths.com/cage-and-aviary-bird-seed/bird-diets-under-the-microscope/ As the reductions were only temporary our prices are more reflective of those previous. We have also worked on altering our weights as we feel that it is more efficient to ship out larger bags which is better for the environment. That said, after reviewing comments on your forum, we understand our customers needs and that a 2kg weight may be too much if you only have one or two birds to feed. With this in mind we are happy to re-instate a 1kg weight for both our Mineralised Tonic Grit and Fine Oystershell Grit, priced at £2.80 each. We do appreciate your feedback and thank you for taking the time to contact us directly regarding your concerns. Kind regards, Gemma Customer Service Manager"

My reply from them was similar to Marianne's but not as long. I'll have to source somewhere else which is a shame.

Oh dear, being a pensioner I think I will have to look elsewhere too....Such a shame as it really is a great product........I can understand they have to put the their prices up, but that’s a big jump.

It is so frustrating to be using a good product, and to suddenly find that it is not available, or in this case too expensive to be justified. Maybe forum members could try different brands and products and give a review in a month's time??

I'll just have to pay the increase I'm afraid, I'm not having any more upset tummies with seed changes.

I’ve currently been lucky that I’ve been able to store about 2kg of seed without it spoiling, and it lasts me at least half a year. It’s just the initial outlay that’s the issue.
