Hi All, I have bought just the basic minimals for my new babies. Wanted to do more research and add more after my budgies felt a little more comfortable in their new cage. I’ve been reading that a wooden natural branch perch is the best? Where is the best place to buy them? Also what can I add/change to make them more happier? What kind of toys do they like? Any kind of advice would greatly be appreciated! Thank you! 😊

Hi and welcome to the forum meely Aww your birdies look GORGEOUS! What are their names? Or haven't you named them yet as they look pretty young Great question with regard to toys and perches, as you have said you may wish to buy some toys but only add one at a time once they have got used to their new home as new things can be very intimdating. As for natural branches, are you in the UK? Only so we can recommend which shops to go to! A lot of us get things online as well

Hi Samwiseg, Thank you for your kind reply. Yes, I will introduce the new toys slowly one at a time. I live in California , I’ve been awake looking online for toys and perches;) Their names are Raven(gray) & Cloud(white). Thanks for your help!

Find out what trees are around you that are bird-safe and try to source fresh branches from them. If you have a garden, it is possible that you have your own source in your own yard. There are plenty of sites on-line that give lists of bird-safe trees and shrubs. Cross reference a couple of different ones as they don't always agree. Err on the side of caution if there seems to be disagreement.

And get more than just one - all perches, if possible, should be natural branches, not plastic, dowels, ropes etc. The odd one being rope, dowel etc is okay but not the majority. The majority should be natural tree branches.

Just to add. It is better have your perches across your cage so that your birds can hop back and forth if possible, try not to just have one perch on a level or they have no where to go to. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks again @samwiseg . I ended up getting some natural perches at our local petsmart. They seem to be happier with the new branches. Hezz Thank you for your great advice. I've been doing my research on trees =) helenmat Yes, that makes a lot of sense. I've ordered more natural perches for them to hop back and forth.

Take out that big sprig of millet and give them only a little piece when you are working on their training. While millet is in their seed mix, they seem to just love the sprigs in preference and will eat these to the extent of not eating anything else. There is another current thread on toys in the section below this one, where a few of us have shared ideas recently. Let me find it for you ... budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/thread/18133/budgies-toys
