Hello, I have a budgie, male almost 1 year old. He has recently been to the vet and been given injected antibiotics (I have no idea what type sorry) and iodine for his drinking water, because he had a respiratory infection, or iodine deficiency (the vet treated both to be safe). Before going to the vet and getting the injection he was relatively chirpy, only showing his symptoms at night and in periods during the day, he wasn't very very obviously unwell or subdued. After going to the vet and getting the injection his respiratory infection symptoms have almost completely disappeared, but he seems very subdued now. He seems to have an itchy vent, he scratches it often, a bunch of feathers have fallen out, and he is pooping irregularly and strangely. He just seems down as well. I'm wondering if this would be from the stress of the vet and the handling (his first time), the antibiotics messing with him, or something else entirely? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hi and welcome millyIn my limited experience this is normal for a budgie to feel like this when it has had medication. Furthermore, his/her poops will change again due to the medicine as it can upset their delicate little tummies for a while afterwards. Hence the scratchy vent as it may become a little sore there. Best thing you can do at this time is keep him or her warm whilst they are going through this time and monitor how the poops are day by day. Us budgie owners get obsessed with budgie poops all the time so you are in good company! Hope that helps

Ok thank you! I was just checking as I know that this can happen to people, but I needed to be sure
