When we got out budgies they were in a small cage, but as they didn't fly (we think French moult) it seemed better. They've been fluttering a little and the latest set of flight feathers seem to be staying in for the time being, so we've just bought a Piano 6 cage. We've put lots of climbing bits on so they can get round, and for the last week, I've been leaving the cages next to each other with the doors open. Rose (the adventurous one) has been climbing in and out between the two. Today, for the first time, Biggles has gone in. They're both fluttering around and enjoying the swings in particular-which is funny because Biggles didn't use the swing in the other cage.
I've left them open to see if they choose to go back to the old cage for the night.

Sounds like they are enjoying their new cage, lets hope that they move in soon. Photos please! That's Rose when she first investigated it. She spent the first couple of days climbing to the top and fluttering down, before she would go in. Biggles is currently seeing what it's like to swing upside down. It's definitely on purpose because he keeps going back and then doing it again. My son is in ecstasy of adoration...

Sounds like they are going to love their new cage! Also, you apparently have a batbird like I do. Sam loves swinging upside down.

That was her first time climbing it.
Biggles just decided the way to go was to come out and prove he can fly properly by flying round the lounge for about 10 minutes. When he landed next to me I picked him up and put him back in. I think Rose (who definitely can't get above waist height) is not sure whether to be impressed or tell him off for being dangerous (which is what Biggles has been saying to her when she comes out)
Biggles is now being very still and I think has shocked himself with his bravery!

And it was good thing we moved them last night into their new cage as we now have another budgie to put in the old cage. Meet Violet. Again she can't fly much, as she doesn't seem to have tail or most of her flight feathers. She also seems to have hurt her foot-you can see the way she's holding it up; it's not moving from being curled up, although she's using it to climb around the cage, and she's eating and chirruping to the others, so I don't think it can be too painful. She was in an outside aviary with lots of birds, and we noticed her because if she fell down to the ground she was climbing back up. I'm guessing she hurt her foot in a fall. It's the same foot as she has her ring on, and it does look a little swollen, so I was wondering whether I should try and get it off, but handling her might cause her more stress.

I'd remove that ring as soon as possible, preferably with an avian vet though as it looks so tight, I'd be hesitant to remove it myself.

I'm not sure there is an avian vet anywhere near. Will a normal one do it?
Do they need specialist tools?

All home. They gave her gas and air to get it off, and she's already looking happier. The foot's still swollen, but it doesn't have the red tinge to it. The vet reckoned that she had pins and needles when she first came round, as she was stretching her leg out and wriggling it. They reckoned give her a couple of days and it should be back to normal, but if not then they'll prescribe her some antibiotics if I ring up. She's currently tucking into her food like she was starved! I think she may have found it hard to get enough food against all the other healthy birds. And all the others are singing to welcome her home.

Brilliant, I'll bet she feels a lot better that it's off.
Well done to you for acting so quickly, left any longer I think would have led to complications.
