Hello! I have a 9 month old, male budgie. His name is Kookie, and I am writing this because I am concerned about his health. I think he is sick. His tail is bobbing, he makes these squeaky and weird noises, he has shortness of breath, and I think he is molting ( since there are pin feathers on his head and his feathers keep dropping). I don’t know if this is because he’s getting older or anything but it’s scaring me because he tends to not be active as he usually was and he barely flies around. He eats and drinks water as usual and even eats apples! But could someone help me? I need so proof so I can tell my dad that we need tot take him to the vet since he thinks it’s fine.[
Thank you for visiting my thread!

Photos and/or videos will help us. He is most likely going through a normal moult - the feather drop - but squeaks with breathing and shortness of breath are not normal. Does he have an iodine block to nibble on? Most bird feed contains limited iodine so he might be iodine deficient which can cause a squeak. Moults can cause them to be less active and more grumpy for a while as they grow their new feathers. Replacing feathers takes a lot of energy out of our budgies, so to help them through this you can give him some hard-boiled egg mashed or dried commercial eggfood for birds which is like a crumble and can be sprinkled over their food or fed in a separate pot.

Thank you so much for replying! Yes he does have a iodine block in his cage. I’ll show you a few pics. Unfortunately I don’t know how to add videos I have saved to my camera roll on iPad.

Those photos don't scream "sick bird" to me. I also think you have a little hen, not a male. If she doesn't appear any worse, give her the extra protein as I mentioned above and see how she is as the moult and new feather growing is over.
