Hi fellow members Wanted to ask some advice if anyone knows about heat pads to put under bird cages when you have a sick bird? Now dont get my wrong I have no poorly birds at present (fingers crossed, does the sign of the cross accross oneself and touches wood) But wondered if there was anything specific I need to look for when buying one? I suppose what I am asking is - can you get temperature controlled ones? I know you can get reptile mats to keep vivariums at a constant temperature but they are not temperature controlled...I think? Same with brewing heat pads, could I buy one of those? And if so what temperature does it need to be without causing harm? Thank you in advance!

My research into heat pads was that they weren't as efficient as a heat lamp. In fact I ran into people who had used both and recommended a lamp over the pads every time. Once you cover a pad so that the bird can't be burnt, you lose a lot of the warming factor. A lamp allows the bird to move in and out of the warmth depending on how it was feeling at the time. For me, it is a lamp every time.

I have a little sheep skin (not real sheepskin) heat pad that i use on my back, you can control the heat output, ive used this under hospital cages before and it's very effective, especially when you cover three sides of the cage

That's great! Thank you Hezz skysmum for that - I do like both of the ideas so shall have to do some more research before I make a decision! Many thanks again
