Is there a treat that budgies cannot resist? For my Mum's budgie for xmas, he does not need any new toys, and has gone off millet spray, he has had fruit stick thingies, but hates them! He is so fussy, apart from his trill he only eats lettuce, and does not get that too often

Hi and welcome scottishbluebird Those honey fruit sticks are not good for budgies as they are fatty and can cause illness so we tend to avoid those but you might like to try him with some new veg? It would be good if he had some vitamin A as that is something that birds lack in their diet so if you can give him a bit of carrot that would be good. Put it in the same place that you usually put the lettuce. It may take time for him to try it but you eating a little bit to show him that it is not poisonous will help too believe it or not! Dont leave it in for too long i.e. more than an hour or two as it starts to degrade. Also try to avoid fruits or keep the fruits to a minimum as they can cause what is known as Avian Gastric Yeast in pet birds (oral thrush) For a full list of healthy veg, you might like to look here

My budgie Charlie is a very fussy eater, but he does love Basil and parsley. So I buy them from the supermarket in a pot, that way he always has fresh herbs. He will eat lettuce but it hasn’t got much goodness in it as it’s mainly water. Try Basil to start with......

Seeding grasses, even if you have to grow your own.

Celery is a good one too, and you can eat what they don't!! Chickweed and dandelion are also good as long as they are sourced from a clean and non-polluted area, then washed.

Thanks everyone! I will try the basil plants and a bit of celery, have tried carrot before, but he was horrified! Do try the carrot again, not only is it really good for him (vitamin A) he may take to it another time, or even several times later!!! Be patient!!
