I think Loki is going to miss you like mad Hezz. It is so lovely that they can go outside though, Butcher bird or not, with Loki guarding and giving the warning alarm! If it's anything like my chickens as far as alarm calls - they recognise the blackbird alarm call. I think all creatures recognise other creatures alarm calls. I think so, as well, Shirls. He was very cuddly when he came back inside. Unfortunately he has gone right into protection mode with my son and his girlfriend staying. He would attack if not contained. He is going to have to get used to my son, though, as he will most likely be living at home again for some time next year. I sure hope he settles down with familiarity.

Harsh parenting I don't think I'd leave Eve in the garden. But then 1/ she's 8 and a half months 2/ we don't have a garden 3/ we're on the 2nd floor.
