Three days ago he regurgitated once in the morning. He hasn't done that again. For the past two days he hasn't been as active as he has been but he is eating and drinking his water. This morning he stayed fluffed up and ate later than usual. I looked at his poo from last night and it looks normal. I think he is going through his first molt. He's lost three flight feathers on his right wing and I see quite a few down type feathers around. No pin feathers have appeared. I left him covered on three sides this morning and moved his cage to my bedroom which is quieter, darker and warmer. Should I be concerned?
Moults can take it out of them, especially the first few. Give him some dried eggfood or hard-boiled egg, mashed, to help replace his energy levels. Growing new feathers takes a lot of energy, and there is not a lot of protein in normal budgie-type food. Some won't eat egg but will eat eggfood, and others the other way round. Try one and be prepared to try both to see what he will eat.

Thank you - will do.Is it possible that he's not getting enough or the right kind of sleep? I have an open concept house - one large room for kitchen, living and dining rooms. I keep his cage between the kitchen and dining room across from the living room so we can see each other during the day. When the sun sets he goes to his "sleeping perch" and settles in. I'm usually watching TV or reading. I put his cage cover on but leave the front open. Around 10pm I cover the front, turn out the lights and head for my bedroom. I uncover the front of his cage around 7:30am. Within a few minutes he usually goes and eats some seed. He typically starts chirping around 10am. When the sun sets should I move him to my guest bedroom and cover him?

He has a couple other toys in his cage and I'm going to put a couple more in. He hasn't been "exploring" his cage. I have a cup with oyster shells and he hasn't even looked at it. He hasn't checked out his ladder. I put two branch type perches and he just started perching and chewing on them a week ago. He hasn't used his cuttlebone. Most of all he loves it when I open the shutters. He comes alive jumping around, chirping and signing softly. He saw his first rain and was scared at first but then became very intrigued, cocking his head and watching it hit the patio and his window. My guy seems to be very skittish about everything. I have to make small changes in his cage or he will sit frozen on his perch all day. On the positive side we are learning to communicate. The veggie clip is where he likes to perch for the night. At dusk he went down to the perch as normal. He gave me a soft tweet and I went over to see what was happening. He bit the clip a couple of times, backed away and gave me another soft tweet. I removed the clip and he went to his spot where he sleeps.
Oh how sweet! It will take time for him to get used to new toys and as far as oyster shell, iodine block, cuttle, he will take these as and when he feels the need, so not necessarily every day. Early days, he will settle soon.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day here in the USA, a big holiday for us. I left my house around 2pm to have dinner with friends. It was a very different day for Tweetie Pie because it was pouring down raining, the rain would stop and then start again. It was only the second time he'd seen rain and the first big storm (well for CA anyway). He was in his usual spot in front of the window, watching the rain, tweeting and calling to other birds whenever the rain stopped. When I left the house, I left him in front of the window so he could enjoy the weather view. I came back to the house around 7:30pm. Normally when it gets dark outside (now around 5pm) I close the shutters and put his cover on three sides leaving the front open so he can see me sitting in the room. When I came back to the house, I went over, closed the shutters and put the cover as normal on his cage. I started fixing myself a snack and I heard his "mommy come" tweet. I went over to his cage and he went to his seed cup and ate a seed or two. He paused and went to his water cup and dipped his beak in. Hmmm I thought, maybe he's eaten his favorite seeds and wants more so I put a bit more in his cup. His water was fresh so I left it and sat down with my snack. I heard the soft tweet and went over again. He jumped over to the side of his cage and then climbed up to the top. He's never done that before so I thought maybe he wants peace and quiet. I rolled his cage into the guest room and prepared it for sleep. After sitting down again I heard the soft tweet. OK he doesn't want sleep so I rolled his cage out beside my chair. He jumped down to the perch closest to me and softly chirped for bit and then stayed there. I spent the rest of the evening talking to him off and on. My baby missed me!!! He was trying to tell me he wanted interaction time with me not sleep. Usually when I give him fresh seeds and water I will spend time talking and interacting with him. Sorry for the long post but I think we are breaking through to being pals.
