On Tuesday morning when i went in to uncover the birds dear little Bertie was on the floor, he looked fine but was just sat staring into space, i spoke to him and he didn't respond, i took the covers of and he didn't respond. As i opened the cage door he started to make his way to the side and began to climb up, he found a perch and settled there but something didn't sit right, he wasn't himself at all. Over the next couple of hours i watched on and off and he didn't venture from the perch, when i went in at lunch time i found him trying to make his way over to the food bowls and the awful realisation hit me, he was blind . Ive no idea how or what has happened and it's heartbreaking to see him like this, he is the life and soul of the group. I have set him up in a small cage with soft perches and he is searching and finding his way around but he hates it. I'm truly at a loss atm and don't quite know what to do, i'm praying that it could be a temporary thing and still don't know the cause, could he have hit his head falling or has he had some sort of seizure, i'll never know , in all other respects he is fine, his poop is normal and he is eating and drinking when he finds it and i'm making sure he does. I've dealt with many things over the years with them all but ive never had this i'ts awful to see

Oh I can’t believe this skysmum, my heart goes out to dear, sweet Bertie. I’m praying it’s temporary too as Budshire won’t be the same without his shenanigans. He is the life and soul, little PC Plod, the great observer. All you can do is wait and see I guess ☹️

Thanks guys, there is so little information on it, i'm sure it's not a disease type thing because he is so well otherwise, i did wonder if he had hit his head on a lower perch when he's fallen and has damaged the optic nerve but my gut feeling is that he has had some sort of neurological episode. It's a waiting game atm, i keep praying that i'll go in and he is responding to his surroundings and sees my hand coming around the cage but as yet nothing

Was scouring the net skysmum and it could it be an infection that he may need antibiotics for? As apparently that can cause temporary blindness Depends on how much you trust your vet and of course, taking Bertie, if will make the journey comfortably. Whatever you decide to do, you know it will be the right decision Hugs to you xx

Bertie was/is Bumble’s wingman and I have a special affection for him for being so welcoming to Bumble when he arrived at Budshire.

Oh no, poor PC Bertie. I hope that samwiseg is correct and that it is only temporary caused by infection.

I'm more inclined to think it is neurological as well, skysmum, especially as you say he seems healthy in every other way. Seizures can cause blindness, some temporary, some not. I do hope Bertie is going to be okay. It sounds as though he does have some vision, so perhaps he is already recovering some sight.
