I have a female budgie, Khaleesi, and she is about a year old. Lately she has been landing on my head and likes to bend over my head and nibble on my eyebrows. She is a bit rough. She will also nibble on my finger if I put my finger out for her to step to it. She is voluntarily landing on me, I am not chasing her or anything like that. I do have another female budgie, Luna. Luna is about 4 years old. Luna never seemed all that interested in me, so I got Khaleesi last January as I felt bad...since she didn't seem to want to play with me. Luna lays a lot of eggs. So I know she has been broody a lot. When she does this I increase the amount of time she is covered so she stops laying as it worries me. Anyway, since I have the two birds....they do play a lot but the younger parakeet will climb on top of Luna (the older one) and then Luna has gone into laying eggs mode one. Because of this, I now only let one budgie out at a time. Both budgies are drawn to each other, but Khaleesi (the young one) likes playing with me. Luna is now coming out of her shell and will fly out of her cage to see Khaleesi and has even come out of her cage on my finger and sat with me on the couch for a few minutes, letting me kiss her little chest. Anyway, my question is am I doing something wrong with Khaleesi (the young one) who seems to be grooming me but is very rough? Or is it just rough affection? Either way, is there something I should do with my behavior to change hers? Any advice so I can get both birds out of the cage at the same time without sending Luna into egg laying mode? Thanks!!!!! (Both are very clearly female birdies)
