Hello everyone, Im not sure if I’m being paranoid, but I can’t be too careful, (and better safe than sorry), right? I use an oil mix for my skin, and I stopped using it because I’m too worried about my birds, they step on my finger , I handle their food and toys, so I didn’t want to risk it, but I really need to use it for my skin, so I searched online for answers and i couldn’t find any conclusive answers, I found a few answers for some of them but not clear cut answers, some are even completely contradicting each other , so I thought maybe I could bother you with this and hopefully get answers from all of you nice people here I mix them together myself, so if there are any oils that I should remove from the mixture please let me know. the skin oil is made of (all natural): -Almond oil -Vitamin E -Lemon oil -Spearmint oil -Rose-hip seed oil ohhh, and I will bother you with one more oil mix, for my husband’s beard the beard oil is made of: -Jojoba oil -Argan oil -Lemon oil -Spearmint oil -Lavender oil I really appreciate any input

I'm sorry but I really wouldn't have a clue.
If I moisturise my hands then I wash them before handling any budgie food.

Sorry can't help either. I never use creams, oils, etc when near the birds.

Thank you both for your replies I wish I can skip it all together but my skin is sensitive and I get like Eczema and I have to use something, so I chose natural oils which is working well for me so far, but I think I might keep it simple and stick to only (almond oil and lemon oil) just to be safe, and I will do as you Marianne, I will make sure that I wash my hands thoroughly before handling anything bird related. Thank you again I really appreciate your input

Thank you again I really appreciate your input I occasionally have eczema on my hands and make my own cream for it with essential oils but only use it before I go to bed, or before I go out. During the day, if it's particularly bad, I rub on aloe vera straight from the plant.

Sweetpea thank you for your input I will do the same and use it before bed I wish I had access to aloe Vera plants :/ I buy the gel like ones in tubes (organic) and use it occasionally but it doesn’t have that great of an effect on my hands (eczema). I appreciate your reply

lemonora, if your mix is absorbed by your skin before you handle your birds, I don't really see that there would be a problem. I would discourage them from mouthing your skin too much, but I can only see that being a problem if you had one who was very bonded to you. I think the same goes for your hubby's beard oil - I remember you posed this question early. Hair oil is not going to be absorbed as readily as it would on the skin. Also, if aloe gives you any sort of relief, you should be able to buy one or even import it for very little. My understanding is that it is renown world-wide, so why not look into getting your own little plant? My "little" plant is currently bursting out of its pot. They are the sort of plant you practically can't kill.

That’s a good point Hezz I will try to find an aloe plant I would love it actually I will sure look into it thanks again:) yeah i did ask about his previous (store bought) beard oil which he has since stopped and he started making his own mixture you are absolutely right about beard oil not being absorbed like on the skin, so probably I should be more worried about his oil, it’s mostly jojoba and for the life of me I can’t find a clear cut answer about it :/ one says it’s toxic and the other says it’s completely safe, maybe I can convert him from jojoba to almond oil ;D you know sometimes They may land on his head or beard while flying, but maybe I’m being too paranoid :/ thanks again for all your input you are great and I’m very happy to be a part of your forum

I use hand cream every night before I go to sleep. That way it has all absorbed and been washed off before I go anywhere near my birds.

I use face cream and hand cream, probably not as often as I should, and don't go to any great lengths to prevent the birds from contacting it. Loki is probably the worst and I simply discourage him from licking my skin. I certainly don't wash it off before I handle anyone.

How sweet is Loki 😍 he sounds like a sweetheart ❤️ Maybe I should not be this paranoid I will do the same and not stress over this, especially that none of them lick my skin, I was more worried about handling their food and toys or when they step up on my finger, I’m also keeping the ingredients to a minimum, just (almond oil, lemon oil, and I will be adding spearmint oil) because I found out that they can even eat a bit of mint so it’s safe Thanks again, I’m so grateful And I really really appreciate all of your replies and help
