I got my budgie 3 days ago for a friend for my 1st budgie. She's currently in a separate cage and is scratching the corner of her cage and digging in her food. I don't know if it's a personality trait or is she's trying to escape or if she's stressed. She's eating, cleaning herself, playing, talking and exploring and seems quite happy. Please can someone say if I need to be worried or why she's doing it. Thanks for reading

The only time I've seen a budgie 'digging' on the bottom of a cage is when they've been Trying to hide due to illness or stress.
Id guess your budgie maybe stressed? I don't know.
I've had budgies dig in seed pots mischievously.
Have you got a towel or something around the cage leaving the front uncovered, so your budgie feels safe?
Maybe put the radio on low or play budgie sounds quietly from the Internet to see if that helps calm.

Could she be trying to make a nest? Do you know her age?

No sorry I don't her age but she has the black strips going down her neck so probably young ?? This confuses me. Post a photo and maybe we can see if the bird is a youngster or not. Most young budgies will burrow into anything they can - seed pots, under paper - and often mature hens will do the same if they are in breeding mode, looking for a suitable nesting place. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about in my mind.

Get her some shreddable toys, a swing (or two), things with bells to rattle etc. Have multiple lots of toys so that you can change them around when you do a cage clean, to prevent her getting bored. She is an intelligent animal who will get bored very quickly with nothing to occupy her days.

Peri ends up under the paper a lot too, particularly when he's having a mad 5 minutes or wants to come out and apparently thinks digging through plastic is the way to go. I echo the sentiment on the shreddables. My older bird takes about a month of having them in his cage to even become interested, so I never really bought any, and now I don't have any but my younger bird seems as if he'd like them. I agree with not putting too many toys in the cage at once, but you definitely want plenty to swap to keep things interesting. Swings are great because they're both a toy and a perch, and often a preferred sleeping place. Fresh vegetables make good nutritious shredding toys too.
