Hello, as promised here is the update: The vet confirmed that Mellow (my budgie's name) does have a compromised liver. She gave him an injection (Vitamin B) and recommended a website where I could find food especially for budgies with this issue. The vitamin powder he's getting is also good. His weight seems to be alright, he's neither over- nor underweight. And that was all the information I got concerning the topic of his diet (I did mention that he refuses to eat fruit and vegetables). Mellow is doing fine. The bruise on his beak is healing and he's not as stressed as I expected him to be after the appointment. I'm honestly still a bit unsure if I got enough information but I guess that is it for now. Thank you again for your support and I hope you had a nice weekend! Could you post a link to the website, please? If we know what info you already ahve, perhaps we can help a bit more with different foods that might help him.

Thank you for the offer to help, but I don't know if you can read it since it's in German. In case you want to take a look anyway, here is the link: ricos-futterkiste.eu/shop/wellensittiche.html?cat=129I think you can translate the website in Google Chrome, but I doubt the translation will be good. There are a few different herb mixtures available, but I don't know if any of them would help. I'll most likely call my vet again after New Years is over. Here's a screenshot of the translated website. These are just some of the available products in the additives section.

Thank you for that. I'll have a look a little later and see if it will translate. My German doesn't exist! Edit: Translation worked well. It looks to be an interesting place to shop for budgie needs.

Happy New Year!
I'm glad the translation worked, the website does look really interesting and there's a large selection of products that look great.

Happy New Year to you, too. Please stay in touch and let us know how your little one gets on. You might like to ask your vet about using milk thistle extract for Mellow's liver problem. A few of us use it for fatty liver birds, and does really seem to help. The brand of the one I use is Nature's Answer. I have to import it from the US, but members from UK can source it locally, I think.

I did find milk thistle on the website, too. It's a powder instead of an extract though. There are also milk thistle seeds: I don't know about importing from the US since I live in Germany, but I will look into it since I can't find an extract on the website. Thank you for the advice!

I would advise against getting the seeds if they are still in the shell - they are so hard! A budgie (in my experience) won't try to crack them, and they are the devil to crack yourself and to get the seed out. The page doesn't say whether they are husked or not. The liquid extract is very easy to use as you simply add a drop or two into the water and I haven't had a budgie (or other bird) who wasn't happy to drink it. I ordered the milk thistle extract today and it will most likely arrive in about ten to fifteen days. Mellow is still doing fine and his behaviour seems normal. He still refuses to touch anything that's not seed or water though. I'm going to buy some salad and dill tomorrow and try again...
