I can't see that this has been asked before, so... I just finished shredding a load of papers and was wondering if it would be safe to give some to my budgie just to play with? He quite likes shredding toys and as he doesn't fly plays quite a bit with the toys on the bottom of his cage too.

I don't see a problem at all; I would get a heap and peg or tie them together in the middle to make a "spider" sort of thing, or plait them up and hang them to give him something different to chew up.

It all depends on the type of paper you shredded. It could have inks on it that aren't safe for your budgie. You can get unbleached paper (the kind that chip shops use to wrap chips in) and that's perfect for budgies to shred and chew on
