My local bird store is where I bought Carrie and Doug. They sell, breed and hand feed all kinds of birds there. Have ABBA food, which originally I was feeding Doug and Carrie ABBA 1600 along with treats, millet etc. I recently am mixing ABBA 1600 and ABBA 1200. Is this ok?

I'm not familiar with this food. Do you have some links or a list of ingredients?

Not something I have heard of, or heard of anyone using, either. Reviews seem very mixed.

I have to say that they have some strange things in them like Chicken, pork and fish! My budgies have a seed mix which contains red, yellow and whilte millet seeds, canary seed and groats. Could you get hold of anything like that? or perhaps get the seeds individually and mix them? I feel there is a lot of stuff that your budgies do not need in those mixes. In the wild they would eat grass seeds and vegetation, perhaps some berries. I think they might eat some insects too, but their diet is mostly vegetarian. Correct me if I'm wrong Hezz? Veggies I feed my budgies are carrot, dill, basil, sweetcorn, mange tout - all uncooked. ABBA 1600 Parakeet food ingredients: Millet seed, canary grass seed, oat groats, safflower seed, buckwheat, heat processed corn, cracked corn, flax seed, sesame seed, nonviable hemp seed, ground shelled peanuts, ground mollusk shell, kibbled biscuit made with meals: wheat, corn, oat, rice, barley, soy bean, buckwheat, bean, ground: peas, brazil nuts, cashews, filberts, pecans, walnuts, almonds, shelled pumpkin seed, egg shell, water, shredded coconut, whole eggs, precooked: pork, chicken, fish meat,( USDA inspected and approved) Fresh and dehydrated: carrots, dandelion, chicory, kale, grapes, bananas, apples, oranges, pears, apricots, milk, honey corn syrup solid, casein, salt, brewers yeast, yellow beta carotene, cod liver oil, wheat germ oil, dextrose, vitamin a supplement vitamin d3 supplement, vitamin b12 supplement, vitamin e supplement, riboflavin supplement niacin supplement, calcium pantohenate, choline bitartrate, folic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex, pyriodoxine hydrochloride, thiamin hdydrochloride, d-biotin, ascorbic acid manganese sulfate, zinc sulfate, ferrous sulfate, copper sulfate, ethylene diamine dihydriodide, cobalt sulfate, magnesium sulfate, potassium iodide, calcium carbonate, calcium propionate added to preserve freshness, artificial and natural color and flavor. It looks like tammie1971 is in the States? I tried a few seed and pellet mixes for my Tweetie Pie and he "told" me he liked Volkman Super Parakeet seed best. Although it can be found on Amazon, I get it at my local bird pet store because I know it will be fresh (they recommended it also). I compared the ingredients to what it seems that many of the experts here feed their birds and it looks similar.

I agree, Marianne. There does seem to be a lot of extras with no indication of in what quantities, and as I said, the reviews seemed very mixed. They could have left the ingredient list at the first line and it would have been a reasonable budgie mix. I'm no big fan of all the artificial additives; I think as natural as possible is the best choice. It looks like they have taken everything out of the pantry, thrown it all together and called it a bird food. T

Marianne Marlow..... it seems that sounds more like a wild finch food. Is that true? Can I feed them wild bird food similar to that or is wild food bad?
If I could get a hold of seed to mix my own, daily mix would consist of white, red, yellow millet, groats, and ??

Which one sounds more like a wild finch seed? Wild bird food is not generally of the same quality or have the variety of seeds required for a good balanced diet. Budgies can definitely be fed, and thrive, on a quality finch mix. Finch seed mixes usually have less of the oil and fatty seeds (oats, hemp, flax/linseed etc), that's a good thing. Oil seeds should make up only 5% of the birds diet. The more variety of food the bird eats, the better, vegetables rather than fruits, plus sprouts and seeding grasses.
