Thanks Hezz, this one is a funny little one. I'm going to try and get some clearer pictures today. One minute I'm convinced girl and the next boy. The pictures are accurate to the colouring at the time I've taken them. If it turns out Tiki is a girl would it be best to get a boy to join them, put Tiki in with Atlas and Snow or separate both Coco and Tiki with new males (after quarantining) males? Or a mystery option 😅

Budgies don't need a mate to be happy. Most of the time they are happy if they have a companion. Hens can be a bit more difficult simply because two hens will see each other as opponents rather than companions. If you are simply looking to have all budgies happy and are not interested in breeding, get a cage big enough to house all together.

This mornings photo's. How big would the cage need to be for them to be comfortable? Each pair are actually a different childs and are in their bedrooms both spending a lot of the time in their rooms and so they have a lot of company at the moment but I'm worried when school starts back hence the pairs. At the moment their cages are approximately 2ft long and 2.5ft high which seems ok for 2 but I would want to put 4 together in either cage.

Would this work?: Two pairs, two children ... is this correct? So, I'm thinking rather than each child "lose" their birds to the rest of the house, could the pairs be in the children's rooms when they are at home, but both pairs be brought out into the main body of the house for socialising, exercise etc when the children are at school? To me that would be the best of both worlds from everyone's perspective. It would mean that you would have to have both cages easily transportable, perhaps on their own trolley, and then I think that I've made the assumption that this would happen all on one level of the house whereas you may have a house on two or more levels. It would be easier for all, perhaps, if the birds can be brought together without too much bother and then taken back to the bedrooms when the children come home and have time to spend with their respective pair. Even if this doesn't work for your situation it might send your thinking in another direction where everyone concerned's needs and wishes are taken into consideration.

This could work I think. We are across different levels so while we couldn't wheel them my husband could certainly move them without too much fuss. We are technically over 5 levels in terms of stairs with my son second from top and my daughter 1 from bottom we could put them in the family rooms I think. Thankfully they are getting along great at the moment, Tiki in particular is a chatty little thing but as soon as we open the doors in the morning they all start chatting to one another across the house.

Coco and Tiki are getting along well, I'm still of the opinion Tiki is a girl. Here is a picture of her today:

Atlas and Snow are also doing wonderfully: Atlas' cere has changed colour a little in the last few days and has a little blue at the bottom, I think this possibly indicates girl?

Tiki with my daughters phone camera looks a little different and looks to me more natural. She says the cere is purplish-grey.
