I dunno what has come over me lately, but I am kind of turning into a pigeon nut! We have always had the feral pigeons visit, but I never wanted them IN our garden because of the mess they make. So we decided to feed them every morning just outside our garden so they dont try and take the window feeder food They know every morning now, I give a special whistle and they come down for breakfast! Believe it or not, I have started naming them as well! Of course there are some that I cannot tell who they are because they dont have any distinguishing marks or leg rings, but Ive managed to get some pictures to show you (if you're interested) with their names BTW Mrs Checker and Ghostie are an item! And Mrs Checker and Ghostie have brought one of their babies to the throng too! Our new addition is Pearl There is a White Socks as well but he wasn't about on either day
It's this lockdown thing you see, makes your brain do all sorts of things....
...well that's my excuse

Haha! That's brilliant, Sam. My grandparents have been adopted by a couple of crows and squirrels.

ffiscool I’ve never wanted to own pigeons, but have had a few interesting run ins with them. At one point I was keeping a young wood pigeon for a few days because it had jumped the nest too early and needed to build wing muscle strength. We went all around the garden after it until it cornered itself. Then once a feral pigeon wandered up to me to eat the bread I was holding and jumped onto my arm for it without a second thought. Sometimes someone in Cardiff puts grain around a tree in the city centre and the feral pigeons all cluster. You can almost touch them they’re so intent on their meal. So many of them have bad feet.

I do feel for them, as unless kept by someone, they don't have it easy.
I also never fancied eating pigeon

I love the 'special whistle' samwiseg I had to go to the shops yesterday and as I walked past a B&M with the big sacks of sunflower hearts stacked outside I had to do a double take as there, right on the top of the huge pile at eye level with me, was a cheeky pigeon. He had found/made a tiny hole in the top sack and was sitting there quite happily, filling his boots

When my dad was a young man he raised pigeons so he always had a particular love for them. When he was bored or just wanted to get away from the house, he'd pack us up in the car with some stale bread and we'd drive to the local park to feed the pigeons and ducks. Yes, I know now that the bread is not good for them but when I was a little girl, everyone did it.

My OH's grandfather kept racing pigeons - he would always ask as soon as Grandad let them go if they would be back yet after 5 minutes?! The innocence of youth eh? Sometimes Marianne Marlow - if they stay still for long enough! Usually the hens have smaller heads and their eyes are higher up on their heads too. They are smaller, plus I knew Mrs Checker was a hen because Ghostie often displays to her by cooing and doing his bobbing and weaving dance lol! They do fill their boots too willowsmum! Can just imagine the look on his face whilst scoffing sunflower hearts!!! Here we are then Willowsmum, just for you

I have a baby wood pigeon visit the garden (along with several adult woodpigeons). I call him Baby Bird, he is so sweet! Hasn't got his full markings yet, and when he does, he will look exactly like all the others. I've tried to distinguish between them all, but they are all exactly the same!! Love all the names for yours samwiseg, especially the pretty one, Pearl!!
